    Default Overview & Original Build

For the latest build proposal, see here.

    OVERVIEW

The builds in this thread focus on protection w/ varying levels of healing, tankishness, and modest DPS.

All of the PDK builds in this thread require a +1 Lesser Heart of Wood.
All of the Aasimar builds in this thread do not require a +1 Lesser Heart of Wood.

The Lords & Saviors Builds (LSB's), both PDK (see below in this post) and Aasimar (in the comments/replies section), have the strongest *healing* focus.
    PDK LSB's:
*Abilities & Feats Set #1 has the strongest healing focus out of all the builds in this thread thus far.
*Abilities & Feats Set #3 has stronger DPS.
    Aasimar LSB's:
*The first Aasimar LSB has a solid healing focus, but is slightly stronger in DPS than the PDK LSB's.
    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post6084948
*The second Aasimar LSB has the strongest DPS focus out of all the builds in this thread thus far.
    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post6093279

Roughly, the four LSB's above are listed from highest to lowest in healing capability.
Roughly, the four LSB's above are listed from lowest to highest in DPS.###
###High DPS is not the design goal of any of these builds; it is protection via healing and tanking with some modest DPS.

The "Messiah" Builds have the strongest *tanking* focus w/ Harbored by Light, Reinforced Shield, and Improved Mage Armor.
*The first Messiah Build is an Aasimar w/ Stunning Shield - this build has the strongest tankishness of all the builds in this thread thus far.
    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post6094528
*The second Messiah Build is a PDK w/ Stunning Shield & Ameliorating Strike - aka "The Second Coming" - a return to the original concept build w/ a more tankish/DPS twist.
    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post6094529
*Philosophy: I've generally resisted deeper cuts into Favored Soul, but I can live with the "Messiah" builds because they affirm the protective/supportive role of the class.

The default epic destiny for all of these builds is Unyielding Sentinel.

    ORIGINAL BUILD

The original "Lords & Saviors" is a wonderful build with formidable tankishness, robust healing, and modest dps.

The idea for this build was to make minimal compromises to Vanhooger's "Legendary" Tank in order to allow it to do some damage in difficult situations in order to either draw aggro or kill as necessary.

In short, I wanted to keep the build's incredible tankishness completely intact while granting it some modest DPS. For example, the Lords & Saviors Build (LSB) drops Toughen and Intimidation feats for combat feats.

With all that in mind, it's fitting that Vanhooger & La Famiglia over at the Legendary Tank mentioned a fvs/pally build.

    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...ary-Tank/page3

Of course, I've been experimenting with such a build since at least August 2016, when I posted this thread.

I went with four levels of Paladin (rather than the five suggested in the discussion) to retain 16 levels of Favored Soul for Mass Cure Critical (MCC)—which has been invaluable for efficient healing. I use MCC much like a burst heal on a cleric when I am in the midst of battle, and I typically have Quicken on during such moments for no-fail heals while being attacked on all sides.

You might be thinking that constantly/frequently using Quicken would negate the advantage of having additional spell points from a Fvs, but you need to think comparatively. Vanhooger's build uses Quicken nearly constantly as well. So as far as the sp count goes, Quicken is a wash. That is, both builds cast spells w/ an additional cost of 10sp.

The LSB benefits tremendously from having more spell points than the cleric build, especially since the LSB is based on CHA. Because it's mainly a Favored Soul (base sp count coming from CHA), it also gets equipmental spell point increases doubled like on a Sorcerer. It can also cast heals much more quickly than a Cleric.

The biggest compromise made on the LSB is on hit points, because the first LSB is based on CHA rather than CON.

The synergies on the LSB are remarkable. CHA for hit, dmg, spell points, saves, and intimidation!

Here is the latest suggested build:

PDK w/ Heavy Armor, Tower Shield, and Bastard Sword

    ***Leveling***
This build requires a +1 Lesser Heart of Wood. First create any PDK build w/ 1 level of fighter (given by default), 3 levels of paladin, and 11 levels of favored soul. Then lesser reincarnate to 4 levels of paladin and 11 levels of favored soul.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Abilities & Feats Set #2 (Superceded by Abilities & Feat Set #3 [see below])

This variation suffers a little on healing relative to Set #1, but not on tanking.

    30. Overwhelming Critical & Scion of Celestia

    ---------------------------------------------------

Abilities & Feats Set #3 - Recommended for Flexibile Healing/Tank/Melee Focus

This variation is sort of like a CHA-based Sword & Board Favored-Soul version of Axel's Cleric Build w/o THF feats. (Say What? Well, it's really not much like Axel's build aside from the fact that it has cleaves.) Similar to Abilities & Feats Set #2, it suffers on healing relative to Set #1 due to the lack of Empower Healing and Enlarge, but it does not suffer on tanking. It has the additional possibility of running in Legendary Dreadnought.

    Base Abilities (32/36 Pt. Build):

Abilities & Feats Set #3 gives the additional possibility of running in Legendary Dreadnought. However, Legendary Dreadnought is merely an option to use when there are already enough tanks and healers in the group. It is not the regular/default ED for this build; that will always remain Unyielding Sentinel.

    ***Skills***
First, put points into Intimidate, then Heal, then Balance, then Jump

    ***Epic Destinies***
Following Vanhooger, I initially built this for Unyielding Sentinel. However, I was floored when I began to experiment with Divine Crusader. The core tank/healer build *can* kill!

If there are already enough tanks in a group, you don't have to just sit there with no DPS like the original concept build. On LSB, you can switch to Divine Crusader and rip it up. Indeed, you can even *heal and kill* in Divine Crusader--if you're good. You can also kill things as necessary when in full healing/tank/Unyielding-Sentinel mode by switching to the Stand Against the Tide stance.

    *Unyielding Sentinel (Default)
-Divine Energy Resistance x3, Commanding Presence x3, Shield Prowess x3
-Block Energy x3, Legendary Shield Mastery x3
    -Renewal x3
-Hardened x3, Strength of Vitality x3

    *Divine Crusader
-Bane of Undeath, Purge the Wicked, Charisma
    -Confront Any Foe!, Consecration x3
    -Sacred Ground, Blessed Blades
    -No Regret, Crusade
    -Heavenly Presence, Celestial Champion
    -Strike Down

Abilities & Feats Set #3 gives the additional possibility of running in Legendary Dreadnought. However, Legendary Dreadnought is merely an option to use when there are already enough tanks and healers in the group. It is not the regular/default ED for this build; that will always remain Unyielding Sentinel.

    Additional ED: Legendary Dreadnought
    - Extra Action Boost x3, Constitution
    - Momentum Swing x3, Improved Power Attack
    - Lay Waste, Critical Damage x3, Haste Boost x3
    - Volcano's Edge
    - Devastating Critical
    - Master's Blitz

If you feel like you are missing out on Legendary Dreadnought by using Abilities & Feat Set #1 (even though it has better focus), you can still run Legendary Dreadnought using the following:
    - Legendary Tactics x3 (assuming you have Stunning Shield), Extra Action Boost x3, Constitution #1
    - Constitution #2
    - Critical Damage x3, Haste Boost x3
    - Volcano's Edge
    - Advancing Blows, Devastating Critical
    - Master's Blitz

Generally, for this build, Unyielding Sentinel > Divine Crusader > Legendary Dreadnought.

    ***Equipment***

Head - Epic Halcyonia - Devotion, Magic Efficiency

Endurance Set [+2 Artifact Bonus to Resistance, +2 Artifact Bonus to Spell Saves]

    ***Style of Play***
    *Quicken on (nearly) always.
    *Intimidate when tanking.
    *Melee or Block as necessary.
*Heal w/ self-centered Mass Cure Critical and Renewal.
*Only use single-target heals other than Renewal when remote or urgent healing is necessary.
*Have/twist Confront Any Foe from Divine Crusader for burst DPS.

If you are into primarily soloing, this is *not* the build for you. It is a tank/healer intended for a group. However, if you only occasionally solo, I recommend Abilities & Feat Set #3 and Enhancement Set Alternative #2 and running in Legendary Dreadnought when you solo.

I've often thought I have been spreading myself too thin by playing so many builds, but as the various experiments have branched and interwoven, they've come to fruition in the most amazing ways—especially when you turn them into jam, chutney, marmalade, etc. It's more healthy to eat them raw though. Like they say, eat your fruits, juice your vegetables . . .

OMG, what the heck am I talking about?!?

For solo Play I supose the damege will be very low ( Shild and weapon come from vanguard). takes a lot to kill mobs in EE.

The build is not intended for solo play. It's intended to be a tank and healer within a group.

It was partly inspired by Vanhooger's "Legendary" Tank and can use the same equipment, but it can actually do some stunning and damage and has more sp.

Would it break the build to not use the LR+1 and keep the 1 level of fighter? Your using the tier 3 pally enhancements so you do not need the extra level of paladin there.

doh turn undead needed for divine might sorry.

Actually, the build in the OP does not use divine might b/c it uses cha directly for hit and dmg using PDK Cormyrean Knight Training.

However, it does use tier 4 pally enhancements:
Enhancement: Sacred Defender (Pal) - Reinforced Armor (Rank 1)
Enhancement: Sacred Defender (Pal) - Reinforced Armor (Rank 2)
Enhancement: Sacred Defender (Pal) - Reinforced Armor (Rank 3)
Enhancement: Sacred Defender (Pal) - Hardy Defense (Rank 1)
Enhancement: Sacred Defender (Pal) - Hardy Defense (Rank 2)
Enhancement: Sacred Defender (Pal) - Hardy Defense (Rank 3)

Reinforced Armor gives +50% to AC, and Hardy Defense gives +6 to constitution.

EDIT: The turns are used for Confront Any Foe (Divine Crusader).

This build isn't as good as the cleric versions for tanking, but I thought it made sense to provide a favored soul version as well since it could possibly have more of a healing role due to the greater number of sp.
he doesn't really need Turn Undead from Paladin since Warpriest Tree from FvS gives him the same but on mana
i personally wouldn't build it on charisma, since you loose divine might that way, sure you can go harpers and do int to dmg, but needs at least 12 AP vs the 4 AP you need in Warpriest

back to the build, i personaly would go 6 ftr / 14 FvS and lvl-order 1st Ftr, then 13 lvls FvS, 2-6th lvl Ftr, Rest FvS because even if wis-dumped BladeBarrier will still be a very nice tool from lvl 15-18

Including Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Bastard Sword (req. +5/3/1 Tome of STR) in the build sort of confuses me, since afaik, PDK can get this for free by taking levels in either or both paladin or favored soul, and I don't think the deity version has a strength requirement.

I understand that paladin is superior to fighter in many ways (self heals, saves, immunities, auras), but keeping 1 level of fighter effectively earns this build 2 feats (1 fighter bonus, 1 tower shield proficiency not required), and taking 4 levels of fighter instead of paladin is certainly an option worth considering.

I understand the build is supposed to heal and tank, however there are a few feats on that list that I would consider switching out such as the epic skill focuses, and I would rather include the THF line of feats (for b-sword) to significantly increase damage/threat generation or Epic spell power (positive) and Elusive Target (for longsword) for better healing and tankiness.

Build is four months old and predates the new deity feats. I.e., Helm wasn't an option back then.

Default Good Template for Healer/Tank Build after Divine Pass

I took a glimpse at the planned divine pass for Favored Soul, and I think this build will serve as a nice template for other healer/tank builds after the pass.

The build has been great in any case, and I've kept it on a second life for a good while now since I've had so much fun with it.

It looks like after the pass, you won't need to lesser reincarnate on a PDK; you can use nearly any race and a variety of favored weapons with CHA for hit and dmg from fvs.

Default Lords & Saviors Build 2018 - Updated Original Post

I've updated the original post to reflect the latest build with the exception of the enhancements.

I've included an older set of enhancements that still has Cormyrean Knight Training, which is no longer necessary.

The old enhancement set gives you the basic idea though, and I will update it soon.

    A *very* belated reply to a helpful comment . . .

It's mainly about the high saves due to the charisma, but it's also about the immunities--which save item/augment slots. Items and augments can easily compete with feats. The aura is just icing on the cake (though self-healing via LOH doesn't really apply to this build). (It's also a little bit about the skills: paladins get heal and concentration, which makes it less expensive to maximize them.) Bottom line: as far as tanking goes paladin > fighter. I've seen impressive hybrids of the two classes, but they succeed because of the paladin levels.

I agree with this and have offered an alternative ability & feat set (#2) w/ THF. However, overall, I prefer and recommend ability and feature set #1 w/o THF. I've dropped the skill feats in both sets. Thanks for your comment.
