    Default What the Heck Devs?



    It's one thing getting 0/7 Rares from a full clearance of Cerulean Hills like I did for the first ever time yesterday.
    But 0/9 in Tangleroot the very next day = You've gone and nerfed the Rare Spawn Rates haven't you!?!


    P.S. Both times this has happened I've been on a Major Slayer Pot and I've noticed overall a distressing correlation between being on a Slayer Pot and Rare Spawn Rates being lower than average as opposed to when not on a Pot!

    2nd Run



    The last two Rares spawned so that's 16 in a row that didn't spawn!

    The average for Tangleroot is 5 Rares per run, I've never got 9 in one run but I have got 8 in a run a couple times, before today in the 6 years and over the 50+ characters I've run this Slayer on I've not had 0 in one run either!

    Is there a Bug with Slayer Pots that reduces the Rare Spawn Chance Devs?


    Because I don't buy Slayer Pots just to have to keep going back for Rares AFTER I've maxed the Slayer - That rather invalidates the point of them in the first place!

    3rd Run



    Another below average Rare Run with 1 Rare I'd already got {when I only had 2} and 2 I hadn't got.

    What's the betting that on my next run I get 3 Rares again and all three I will already have?

    Rare rates haven't changed, and there's no indication of any interaction between the Slayer and Rare systems.

    The events you've described, while pretty unlucky, are definitely within the realm of possibility. Have you tried virtual dice-luck rituals?

    Well I've given up on full clearances as the 4th run not one of the 6 rares I checked {Jana being where she is I couldn't skip checking her} spawned meaning that no matter whether 1 or all 3 of the others spawned I'd already have them.

    this is nothing new to me. there are some runs i've had great runs or sometimes i just had 1/9 in tangleroot. its literally a crapshoot what you will get. i mean some days i got lucky as much as 7/9. now i have just gotten to the point i do a full run once and move on. i stopped caring about maxing it all out.

    Ended up with 1500 kills and still missing 3 rares.

    5 minutes left on pot too so I'll go back and get those rares after I've used up the pot in 3BC.

    Would you say this is true of the missing rares too?

    Just askin. I hope we can assume, since no player who has ever played DDO has completed King's Forest and Wheloon rares, that maybe, *just* maybe, it's not just bad luck, but bug issues ... can we get those fixed, please?

    Based on my experience with slayer areas and use of Slayer Potions vs Not I have not seen the potions effecting the chances.

    My understanding from way back in the day when Slayer areas first came in was that each rare spawn had a 33% chance of showing up. Each is an independent event so that if one rare showing/not showing has no bearing on the chance of another showing up.

    For me the usual fair is to have a Rare show up when I'm trying to run through one of these areas to catch up with a party in a quest and not show up when I'm hunting it.

    I remember doing about 15 runs with a partner of Tangleroot when it came out just to finally get all rares and at that time you didn't get reduced XP for a rare repeat, you got Zero XP (at least the ones with chests gave something)

    So having none of the rares show up is actually more probable then having all show up.

    I know offhand that the King's Forest issue you mention is a bug. Not sure about Wheloon without some further research.

    When I can devote a substantial amount of time to tracking down the files of the missing encounters, figuring out where they're supposed to be in the encounter structure, ensuring that they were completed properly on our end and don't need further dev work, and ensuring that QA can properly test them, we'll hopefully be able to fix at least the KF set. Can't provide an ETA on that though, sorry.

    Otoh, I've also hit every one in WW before....




    Cerulean I've had both ways. She's a fickle moody area, that one is.

    King forest rare encounters is low on many people's list including mine. It's fine the way it is - I enjoy getting my explorers and what I pick up on the way. Don't care about this issue even a little.

    I thought about this myself just this week. Hubby and I duo-ed a first time run of the desert and GH back to back with Major slayer potion and XP potions going. In the desert we got 1/16 rares, the hyena IIRC, and we actually did better in GH with 2/10. I had never done that poorly for rares in the desert in all the time I've been playing.

    Hey Steelstar, have you guys ever considered making the rares on a map appear as a reward for finding all the explorer points? At the very least, it would help the playerbase dial in problems like this with rares.
    Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.
