    Default Weekly DDO World Restarts on Wednesday

    Starting on Wednesday, July 27th (tomorrow), we will be doing regular weekly restarts of the DDO game worlds. These weekly restarts will take place starting at 9:00 AM Eastern (-4 GMT) every Wednesday. This is being done to promote the general health of the game environment. Click here for your local time.

    NOTE: We'll put an estimated uptime up after we work through this enough to be confident in our process, but the estimated downtime should be around an hour or so.

    NOTE: When the worlds reopen, it will take up to an hour for guild airship amenities to repopulate.

    Nice! With the general deterioration of performance over time, I think this should help some. Catiously optimistic, at least.
    DDO: If a problem cannot be solved by the application of DPS, you're not applying enough.

    Unfortunately, neither the cybernetics, nor the limb-grafting has really come to fruition. So, I can only give this decision two thumbs-up! (for now)

    I applaud this decision and think it helps quite a bit. Before all the people come on with, I logged on and couldn't get buffs on my ship, because they did not want to take the time to read the (highlighted portion), make sure you get the ship buffs before you logout, so you will have them the next day when the servers come back up.

    And how these scheduled server restarts affect timers known to be associated with time, like quest and chests ransack, guild renown decay and other things? We know server restarts have been done often in later times, but not in a repeated and scheduled way.

    Please use that time window for patches/updates also

    Couldn't we do this at a civilized time like 4am? Or is the far east a larger slice of revenue these days?

    I remember a time when ddo didn't need weekly restarts and the game ran fine for months at a time.
    It's a shame that the only solution to fixing the performance is weekly restarts instead of fixing the actual problems causing the performance issues. I really hate band-aid fixes but I guess it's the norm.

    Employee work times. No need to make employees come in super early (likely 2 or 3am) one day every week, for the sole purpose of restarting the servers.

    im going to answer that right now since turbine is on east coast it makes sense to do it in the morning. no matter where they would move the time someone would complain. so it really doesn't matter honestly. its still early enough or late enough it won't effect that many people.

    As a matter of fact, that is a possibility in the future. If there are a handful of things we want to fix/update, this provides us with a weekly window. Granted, it's still a new build and all, but it may well be that we can sneak in some work between patches.

    The Devs may have happy lives outside of Turbine. While working 8-5, with occasional overtime is nice. Getting up at 2 A.M.
    for the minor convenience of a few players may not be in the best interest of said happy lives.

    It's about time. This should have happened years ago. There are many, many memory leaks in the game, and we have mentioned it quite a bit over the years.

    Lately, I have been noticing a degradation in the instance creation. Since the game is a lot about instance creation, it is annoying.

    While cost-cutting measures may have resulted in the increased incidence of performance issues, one should also remember that the game is significantly larger and more complex than before, so there is a lot more to go wrong.

    One of the great things people seem to appreciate about another game I play is that they have regular updates, patches and hotfixes, frequently seen multiple hotfixes in a single day, admittedly they've set up their infrastructure so they can apply those hotfixes without any kind of restart required on their end, just the clients playing need to restart after delivery, which makes it not possible for DDO but the point being that even simply pushing 1 fix out for the weekly restarts would be great!

    Game is 10+ years old, if u haven't noticed theres not a whole lot of ppl who still play. So lower playerbase and years of code over code = probally to exspensive to fix. The restarts will help a ton , heck I notice a huge difference in LE shroud after updates or restarts.

    At least they r doing something.
