    Default Another Lag Question Thread

I just upgraded from AT&T DSL to WOW 100/10 cable. For most things the difference is easily noticed.

I'm wondering if I should expect any improvement in game.

I did a tracert to gls.ddo.com and to ddo.com. Both ran the same route getting to a CenturyLink center in Kansas before timing out. The gls.ddo.com had one * then ran through to the log in server in Boston. The ddo.com never completed.

I know that pathing is somewhat dynamic, but why Kansas? I live in Georgia (USA).

Next I logged into DDO and ran the same tracert connections. I got the same results. I don't know why I thought things might be different, but I'm not the best in grasping network stuff sometimes.

In game I am getting a frame rate >60 and still >30 when I am experiencing stutter lag, which I had assumed was due to upload/download issues but now am not sure. By stutter lag I mean freezing in place for several seconds then coming out of it, normally in place but sometimes with the rubberbanding back to a previous location.

I am running an older machine but the graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 and I have most settings turned down below the defaults. I wondered if it is graphics settings.

Or, is what I am experiencing simply normal?

With AT&T the game was nearly unplayable at times. That hasn't been the case so far with WOW but I'm trying to prepare myself.

To answer the unasked questions, I live in the country, AT&T was the only option, WOW is the only alternative and just arrived.

Thanks for any insight you can give.

Sad face. I thought that at least one person with knowledge of computers and networking would reply with something meaningful.

Apparently nobody -- players or Turbine employees -- knows if I should expect less lag or not. Oh well, I'll just assume that the answer is no and be grateful that at least I can enjoy better response in other areas of the internet.
