it sounds to me (IMHO) that the classic module will actually be 3-4 quests. A!-A3/A4.

Totally for S/R/E areas...even just a vast area with challenging boss like rares that have rare item drops, that would feel like a wilderness adventure without a real objective. Maybe make it so you would have to join a full party for some of these monsters, or run for your life from them solo... could even make the monster mobile all across the map with several locations or nests where it could be found resting or taking a break if it does not spot the party in route to these destinations.
An area where there would be random events depending on the season or time, or simply on the whim of the developers that keep players exploring it.
Umber hulks or purple worms should just come out of nowhere, anywhere in the underdark. An army of drunken gnome barbarians are wandering and attacking anything that moves...monster or human due to some rabid disease.
The Demon Orcus, or some necro-dragon stalks the landscape for trophies to add to its collection of cadavers while hordes of fiendish ghouls scrounge for leftover scraps. Not just undead, fiendish undead from the hellish planes or abyss.
Anything to add to new or old explorer areas to keep them interesting is a good thing...randomization in the same old hamster wheel will spark a lot more interest.
Make the wild, wild again....including wild magic areas in the Realms...that would simply rock.
