Could someone explain Divine Grace to me?

Firstly, I would just like to ask about the maximum cap to Divine Grace since it got nerfed... Secondly, Why was a Two level dip into paladin so common until the nerf? Lastly, does all this reduce the value of being a purist and putting Twenty levels into paladin?

The cap is now 2+(3*paladin level).

It used to have no cap so for classes that already had really high charisma 2 levels of paladin could equal a 30+ bonus to all saves.

A level 20 paladin is exactly the same now as it was before the cap. (Unless you can somehow get more than 134 charisma.)
