Default Gnome +1 crit range not working like I hoped

I made a Gnome Artificer light repeating x-bow build expecting to end up with a 15-20 critical threat range after taking the final weapon training enhancement with the Improved Critical feat. Instead, it ended up 16-20. I thought it would be 15-20 because that is what my swashbuckling Bard is after it's +1 enhancement. It must be applied before the Improved Critical feat on the Bard enhancement and after it on the Gnome. Any idea if this is WAI?

All critical threat bonuses are supposed to be applied after improved critical. (This was a change a few updates ago)

Since, as far as I know, swashbuckler doesn't get enhanced threat to light x-bow I assume your talking about a different weapon. Are you sure it's +1? They get different bonuses for different weapon types.

Update 28 nerfed most of the crit range bonuses which were doubled by Improved Crit feat, so this is unfortunately WAI. Swashbuckling is the sole happy exception, IIRC.

Swashb crit is not applied before imp crit. Tiefling assa blade had 14-20/x3 the last time i saw with swash II. which was 13-20/x3 previously.

Ok, thanks. That's good to know. I was talking about a SS on the bard, but I think all swash weapons end up with a 15-20 crit range. I'll just enjoy the extra crit range on my swash while I can then. I was just surprised that it would be applied differently on different enhancement trees.

That's because you need the actual feat; the double range bonus doesn't apply to Keen / Impact weapons, unfortunately.

I have the actual feat. It doesn't apply for the Gnome enhancement, but it does for the Bard enhancement.

The reason it applies to the Swashbuckler enhancement is because it was meant as a weapon equalizer, granting all applicable weapon types the same crit profile (besides light picks). If it didn't double with improved critical, then rapiers would clearly be the superior weapon, limiting the power of the enhancement instead of making every weapon a rapier with an improved multiplier.

This is also the case with rogue Knife Specialization, which equalizes daggers and Kukris.
