Default Opening DDO Store crashes client to desktop

The title says it all. This started happening after the most recent update after having no issues prior to. This is highly annoying as I just got enough credits saved for being a VIP to purchase Favored Soul and the inability to access the store is... most displeasing.

This is a windows XP-related issue that came up when they did some work to remove awesomium processes from the store. I think Cordovan said they're working on it.

Thanks for the info. Patience isn't my strong suit but for that particular class (and getting fewer Awesomium processes while still being able to work things properly) I would most certainly wait.

Ah, this fits the description of my situation too. I'm really only dabbling with f2p and only wanted to buy an adventure pack or 2. Which is why DDO ended up on my ancient dual core rig running WinXP. I'm certainly in no hurry and can wait until it's fixed.

If someone could clarity for me. When I've found references to DDO Store issues in other threads, I've seen mention of starting the "awesomium_process.exe" app before you launch the DDO client as a potential way to resolve some store issues/crashes. If that's supposed to be indeed doable then that's a problem on my WinXP w/SP3 PC, as that app won't even start even when logged in as a admin user and trying to start it from the command line while in the "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder. So is that applet/process supposed to be possible to run outside of the DDO Client?

This explains one of my problems but it is strange how hidden this post is. I would think it would be listed on the Known Issues page...

Well if you check the most recent Technical FAQ on this site, Windows XP is no longer listed as a supported OS - still listed as supported under the Steam client requirements though. If the QA team no longer has test builds running WinXP, that's going to complicate things. That said, I've noted a few threads where this problem is also being reported for players running the Linux OS which is still a listed OS in the FAQ. IIRC a number of Linux flavors use a WinXP layer or emulation to support games like this, so that likely makes it a bigger issue for the Turbine Dev team. I'm not a 100% about that though, as it's been a few years since I've dual-booted any flavor of Linux.

WindowsXP stopped being a supported OS by turbine as a result of this problem. It was there solution to it by stopping to support users using it.

We are working on a fix for this. Hopefully it'll be in Update 31.

Thanks Cordovan goes a long way to say something about it publicly.

Yes - we have guild members that play on a MAC with a windows "simulator" = they have been locked out of the DDO store for some time and really want to give you money....

This makes me a happy Sgt. Came back to the game for update 30 because I missed you all so very much and was saddened that this game no longer worked as good with my ancient pc. I do hope to upgrade it one day but until then...

    I find this somewhat upsetting.

What will be done to address all the free items, sales, turbine point opportunities, etc that people like myself have missed, and continue to miss, due to a literal inability to access the store?

Will that also cause the Min Req's for DDO to be reverted back to WinXP from the recent change to Vista?

I would speculate that since they changed the Min Req's to Vista then technically you were running an unsupported operating system, thus any issues you may have had aren't able to be compensated... otherwise how would they know who to compensate? Anyone could say they were unable to access the store and demand compensation, unless they are recording which OS we are using each time we login.

Hopefully they fix the issue, revert the Min Req's back to WinXP and the game continues to work for everyone. I wouldn't expect compensation for the outage, however.

Given that this alteration of supported systems was not announced prior to the changes, not announced in the changes, and not announced since, I feel differently. It took player legwork to figure this out.

If a company is going to stop supporting something, seems logical they would, you know, tell their customers about it.

People in that position could then have taken other actions to address the situation in the meantime, while being left uniformed gave them little direction other than to wait.

Its a shame something as simple as telling the players about changes which, quite literally and directly, affect their ability to financially interact with the company providing service, is something which apparently doesnt rank very high. I hope they are able to find a fix soon, and maybe turn on some sales or offer a backlog coupon or something at that time. That way people who missed out get a chance, and anyone who didn't have problems simply gets more choice. Seems win win, especially with how poor this was handled (imho).

In addition, thanks for those in this thread (and others perhaps) who did the legwork to provide these kinds of answers. Do not mistake my irritation at the lack of official communication, as irritation at players taking time out to trouble shoot things. Cheers all.

Thank you - I would have purchased several otto's boxes last weekend if I would have been able to use the store

    What do you mean hopefully?
    So when is update 31?
Will the minimum requirements be returned to WinXP?

This is a totally dismissive non-answer yet again, and I find it insulting on now day 45.
Its not informative in the slightest, and you are rapidly losing my respect with this garbage.

On LOTRO they had this same problem. Sadly, the executive producer answered there questions within a day of them first posting of the problem. The executive producer stated because of the ddo store crashing with xp users, windows xp would no longer be supported. That was when the supported OS's were changed to remove windows xp from turbine games. After backlash over this "solution" to the ddostore crashing, the executive producer then stated they will attempt to get the ddostore working for ALL.

The current plan is to implement a fix for this in Update 31, which is our next update. No ETA to announce at this time, but it'll be about what you would expect if you've been tracking our release schedule in recent years.
