Default Here is an idea... Feel free to whack me with the Noob bat!

I am thinking of a solo build and I like to range rather than engage.. So was thinking along the lines of

    Elf
rogue 2.. I like to be able to spot and disable own traps
Ranger 6 .. Seems like most of the bow feats I like come in the first 6 levels .. Many shot is lush
Fighter 11... More bow Feats and general durability
    And wait for it

Bard 1.. War caster .. 6 extra AC for 4 enhancement points seems a good deal.

On a 32 point build I am not sure where to start on the stats.

    Let the bashing commence!

    How about

    Rogue 2
    Bard 1
    Fighter 17

Surely that's enough feats to get the bow going nicely, the traps disarmed and decent AC?

Or should I hit Ranger not Fighter?

Yes to Ranger 18. You really only need 1 level of Rogue, since Ranger 9 grants evasion. Artificer is arguably better than Rogue, if you have it.

Also note that AC is of limited value unless you build for very, very high numbers. Bard splash actually has a lot of merits, but AC isn't one of them.

Oh... With my basic grasp of paper dnd I thought the best AC you could get was the thing that would be your life saver... Could you tell me what alternatives I should look into please... No need to explain in full... I will go off and read up on it.. Just need direction.

    Thanks!

    You'll want to look at:
    PRR/MRR (Decreases damage you take)
    Displacement/Incoporeality/Dodge
    Saves, specifically reflex with Evasion

For ranged, I'd recommend either pure ranger (bow), pure rogue (great crossbow), or pure monk (shuriken)

Ranger would probably be the easiest gig for you - if you really want traps you could splash at least 1 rogue or artificer in there, just be sure to keep the 18 Ranger for the tasty bonuses in their trees.

Other defences against physical damage are: PRR (physical resistance rating) mainly from items, and miss chances from dodge and effects and spells.
Armor gives PRR but limits dodge to it's max dex bonus.

Remeber also that we have active combat system, so moving behind the enemy or hitting him with deception effect (turns enemy 180 degrees) prevents hits.

    Thanks guys,

Think I shall go Elf Rogue 1 Bard 1 Ranger 18

Now I need to work out starting stats.. And whether I can afford skills in anything other than
    Disable
    Spot
    Search
    Unlock

.. UMD and Bluff would be nice I think, but I don't want to ruin my ability to avoid traps that can just splat me dead in one go!

Experienced players or ones following wiki do not need spot that much, but it is certainly usefull to anyone wanting to get all the atmosphere playing quests first time. It also lets you see stealthed mobs.
Later lives you will dump it.

UMD is powerfull yes, but not mandatory, unless you want to solo quests elite at level. Effective use of UMD means you will need to sacrifice a lot of your inventory to stuff to use with it. Later you will likely buy more storage and backbag space, and want UMD for your all toons.

You could technically dump spot as a new player and take Nothing is Hidden which eliminates the need for it.

It's a bit of an investment, but nothing too crazy.

    Default Dmg output

    Hi

I made this.. Grabbed the extra 6ac from warchanter and got my per up to about 19% magic about 10,

But I am finding my dmg somewhat low.

Is this because I need to decide a couple of elemental damaged and then just add the dice options to them in the arcane archer tree?

When multi shot is up I do ok... And sometimes it is a good job I can paralyse as it takes a few hits to get a mob down.

Otherwise I think my arrows may have suckers on the end!

    Any tips?

I am lvl 9 nearly 10 now Rogue 1 Bard 1 Ranger 7 ... And will be for the rest of the build.

    Thanks

    Bakkachan the ranger
