I'm having the same problem as everyone else, but I'm also seeing a (possibly unrelated) benefit: the launcher used to crash for me periodically - it used to be that I'd need to restart it, possibly several times, in order to get into the game. That isn't happening anymore.

Rollback DDO Store to previous version, which worked for everyone. (Temporary)

Create Web access for the Store.

Then re-enable the shiny new Store... I'd be happy with that compromise.

After waiting for 3 days for a reply from technical support, I received the form letter response below.

'This is most likely related to updates made to the Awesomium functions of the game browser no longer being supported by Windows XP.'

After voicing my objection, I received the technical support response below.

'We certainly understand any frustration and would only note that the engineering teams are reviewing the issue currently and it may be addressed in a future update to the game but currently it occurs due to the lack of specific system and security updates that Windows XP no longer receives as it reached end of service life in 2014 by Microsoft conflicting with the Awesomium features of the game browser.'

I would be running windows 7 if my hardware supported it, but that blessing is not for me at this time. Simply put, this means I play with a severe handicap until I can afford to build another PC. My other option is to not play at all. At this time, I'm leaning towards the latter.

To Turbine, as an IT Technician/Programmer/2D-3D Cadd Designer/Creative Writer, can I offer up my services to work for you temporarily? This would provide me with the much desired income that would allow me to build a new PC. This would provide you with much desired solutions, as there are many bugs that could be fixed, boards to be made, stories to be fathomed. You might even find that my background coupled with my passion for the game I have played for 25 years would make me exceptionally good at such tasks.

I was patient with Turbine when they started a pricewar with themselves (ddo store vs ddo market)
I was patient with Turbine when they refused to identify which guild member stole 80 pieces of gear from my airships storage vault.
I was patient with Turbine when deconstruction and crafting became broken.
I do not have enough patience remaining to wait for your next update.

Do you understand my frustrations now or are you really going to force another benign player out?

I'll look around for a workaround on my end, but I am not doing Turbine's job for them. They can fix the issue, or they can lose money. Period. My entertainment budget can easily go to GoG.com, or Amazon for some cheap DVDs or books. Or more parts for my project truck. I had chosen to spend money with Turbine for this update. Now I will most likely not. Turbine's loss, not mine.

I also run XP due to not having the money to upgrade my ancient computer (which otherwise still runs DDO acceptably well) and have been unable to access the DDO store so far since the launch of update 30 without it crashing to the desktop.

I don't know what percentage of DDO players still use XP but it would be awfully sad if none of us could access the DDO store ever again. It may be several years before some of us are able to save up enough to upgrade.

I hope a fix can be found for this soon.

I'd rather give my money to You then to Microsoft

I hardly play anymore, found a better hobby.

Well. Linux isn't "supported" either, but there's still a bunch of us too.

Yes, this same problem occurs on Linux/Wine. Also same error message has been found to happen with several other games that use Awesomium for something; the workarounds and "end-user fixes" seem to have been diverse and occasionally completely bizarre, but usually amount to avoiding whatever place you'd get an invalid certificate from (either expired or not being for that server name).

(Does the store currently work for Mac users anyway?)

Oh, anyway, I tried to tweak my Wine installation some, and got it to where opening the store no longer crashes the game. Still don't have a working store though, it's back to the empty black window.

There is no reason the DDOstore should have an OS dependency (that i can imagine right now).
Any chance that the DDO store becomes purely Web based instead?

That'd be very nice, but it'd just about require that a lot of the old MyDDO functionality would have to be rebuilt for it. I mean, what with all the per-character stuff in the store and such...

Not that I wouldn't like that too.

Also I hear that people have problems switching to a browser mid-game, but... well. For me it's always been quicker to spawn a new native browser window to... say, right here for example... than to open the DDO Store even when it worked, so for example hotlinking from the game to Siberys Spirit Cakes in the future externalized web Store should not be any kind of a problem if you have a sane default browser. (Yeah, right, that latter might be a problem anyway... just from what the kids have managed to do to their browser settings occasionally...)

Optimally I'd suggest having a checkbox in the settings, "use builtin Awesomium for the store" / "use external default browser for the store".

Very nice! Been having this store issue for a while now too, started bit before the latest update. Wouldn't mind buying gnomes. Even the desktop environment I use is gnome (Ubuntu Gnome 15.10)

Note, before latest update, thus separately from it.

My good computer is down and I have been running DDO on an old machine with Windows XP. DDO seems to be problematic, with several glitches that don't show up on newer versions of Windows.

The store is still crashing for me, too. I have found that occasionally, if you know exactly what you want and do the transaction very quickly, you can get it done before the game crashes. But not often. It's a pain in the...

Somewhat true, but Turbine now states that the minimum OS requirement for PC machines is Windows Vista (yech!). The Wiki still states XP, but that clearly needs to be updated.
