    Default Workaround for failure to connect to patch server

    workaround...

    Open with notepad (may have to run as 'the administrator')
    C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
    ~~~
    Change
    74.201.102.11 patch.ddo.com
    to
    #74.201.102.11 patch.ddo.com
    ~~~

    Inserting the '#' in front of the patch server redirect will force the program to find by name and not by the predefined ip.

    Another instance to login will pop up.. just close it.. DDO is already logging you in with the first one.

    Worked for me, may help others.

    I have two machines, one connects and works fine (Win 10) and one does not (Win 8.1). It gets stuck at 33% times out connecting to patch server.

    Proxy is off, both machines connected to same router. Both machines don't have anything in hosts file.

    I am baffled as it was working 12 hours before.

    Anyone else having this issue?

    Anyone else freezing at 33% , fails on connection to patch server?

    This is a new laptop running Windows 8.1, DDO has been working for 3 weeks then one night just stops. Nothing new was installed in between it working and not working.

    Things I have tried
    * checked empty hosts file (nothing in there)
    * no proxy set
    * tried flushdns
    * machine restarts
    * turned off firewall
    * it's currently also doing another install in the background

    It's not the modem, as I can plug a Windows 10 desktop into it and DDO works fine on that. Anyone know the IP of the patch server so I can try and test it from here?

    Baffled.

    SOLVED!

    Launcher will use environment variables for http_proxy and https_proxy if they are present even if you have proxy turned off in the launcher, it's still overridden with these settings.
    Effects other games to like World of Warships too.

    Anyway had them set for a bower maven plugin for a web project. After deleting them, launcher gets past 33% !!

    :-)

    Default Not Working

    I tried to do this, but when I open "Hosts" in Notepad I get a sample file:
    "This is a sample HOST file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows..."

    I'm not entirely sure if this is what I need to do anyway.
    I keep seeing this:
    "An update error occurred:
    Failed to load patchclient[Cannot load library patchclient: The specified module could not be found.]"

    According to Turbine, I need to go to My Documents and delete the UserPreferences file (the only file) from the DDO folder. That did nothing though. I also read somewhere that re-downloading somewhere other than Program Files can help, but that didn't do anything either.

    Also whenever I try to search the forums for the same issue I get this message:
    "connection to 10.65.214.213:9312 failed (errno=110, msg=Connection timed out)"

    I put a ticket in a couple days ago, and got an automated message back basically tell me not to expect them to get back to me anytime soon. Can anyone help with this? I would start a new thread, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it!!!
