Default New install on Windows 10, An update error occurred, the request could not be sent

New computer with Win 10, downloaded and ran the installer, after the full many-gigs downloaded, it started installing, and after about 15 minutes it is stuck retrying now with the above error message.

Google and searching here yield no hints. An error with the same wording for LOTOR suggests removing a tm from a filename, but that doesn't seem to apply here. I tried running it again with admin but no change.

I'm not an expert on tweaking Win10 to accept DDO.

But the common issues are :
    - no DirectX 9.0c
    - no .NET 1.1

DDO is almost 10 years old, and even if those are not used anymore by Windows, DDO make checks if they are here.

An update error can occur if your system doesn't have access permssions on Windows 10, when you run the launcher make sure to run it as Administrator and try it again. Also allow TurbineLauncher.exe through your firewall for both incoming and outgoing traffic.

Ok I uninstalled it and Akamai, and then ran the installer as administrator. I also let it install in the default location (had told it D drive last time.)

    This time it worked.

If only there was a way to test if an app was running as administrator and then refusing to run with a popup as to why.

I have the same problem (or at least the same message), but with windows 7. I tried uninstalling and then running in administrator but it doesn't work. I've never played before and I just downloaded the game today.

With windows 7 you can try setting it to run with admin privileges. Right click on the shortcut and go to compatibility and select run with admin privileges. You also might to check if the firewall is blocking it.
