The best strategy for trash mitigation is one that takes parts of the O and H method.
    O method pros:
    - You have a group to fight trash so it's gonna be easier
    - You find mind flayers faster.

    O method cons:
    - You leave wide openings in the outer circle. Especially if the group is fighting a mind flayer, then the area behind them is gonna be player-free for a long time.

    H method pros:
    - You have no openings. Nothing can come through the hallways.

    H method cons:
    - You don't find mind flayers fast
    - Only 2 players are available to greet a beholder or a render so they need to be able to kill it alone.
    - If you go to fight a mind flayer, you're leaving your post and thus create an opening.

The last 2 H method cons also go for the football method. If everyone from the whole map rushes to a monster that appeared, they're leaving their posts.

So, the best strategy is a modification of the O method. You have 1 group running the outer circle and to make sure there are no gaps, you post 4 people on the hallways.
The job of those 4 people is:
    - Wait inside the hallway close to the center so you don't aggro outside mobs.
    - If a mob comes towards you, grab aggro and run outside.
    - When outside, stay alive and keep holding aggro waiting for the circling group to come.
That way, you have a party fighting the mobs so deaths are non-issue, DPS is non-issue, generally a lot of errors allowed when a party is present. Also, the 4 people that are close to the center can manage situations that arise in the center. Healer died unexpectedly, someone can raise. Tank died, dogs/xy'zzy on the loose, they won't leave the center.
So, 1 tank, 1 healer, 4 watchers in hallways and 6 people running outside.

The con of this method is that it's VERY difficult to explain, so you won't see it in any PUGs.
My main server is Khyber. Have toons in almost every server for favor purposes. The Faltouts
