First of I know in order to get the cool effect on the helm, you first much obtain all 4 shards, then kill boss, then you must pull the helm.

My question does the helm drop , even if you don't obtain the shards? I ransacked on elite and not one item.. Bad luck I guess?

No, you must get all 4 nodes for the chest to give the helm. The cool node affect comes from glammering the helm. If not glammered it just looks like 4 ioun stones circling your head.

Thanks, I know a guy on Gland who has the helm and he told me it dropped and he did not get the gems, but after ransacking, I think he must be pulling my leg thanks.

Maybe his party did? The whole party can get it if all the nodes are done. He might not have realized they did the other nodes.
