Better gear is awesome. There is no need to double the power of gear though to make it exciting. This is an MMO... Going from +12 to +13 or +14 is exciting. Going from +12 to +20 is silly.

With no changes to the quests, they will become even easier.

With no changes to old raid gear, raids will be run less.

I'm all for making random chests better. It IS good for the game. But there was no need to destroy the raid part of the game, AND power-jump by such a large interval. Random chests could have been made better without going so far.

Which is the named loot they should be focusing on. Before that, farming for named loot makes little sense as it's just something one will be soon replacing anyway.

FYI. For as long as I've been playing, it has never been necessary to hold off leveling a character until better gear is had. So I really don't see your point. I have always just used the best I've found and kept using it until something better drops, with named items being an occasional bonus. If the game required me to farm new loot before I could function at the next level I would have been gone long ago.

My ill-conceived 6th level zombie barbarian dwarf is running with a vorpal great maul, which is fun. He also recently equipped some gloves that have +2 tendon slice as an extra effect that I wasn't even caring about. I don't know if the code is misfiring or what, but he procs hamstring on almost every attack. He does a cleave and the sound of all those tendons breaking is deafening. Nothing shows in the combat logs, but the mobs are clearly hamstrung.

I'm not sure though how he manages to simultaneously decapitate and hamstring folks, unless they're contortionist. :-P

I haven't checked yet to see if today's hotfix changes things, because the devs did adjust the hamstring code. I will when I get home.

who said anything about holding off leveling to get better gear? I don't expect you to see my point though.

Spellcasting Implement bonus appears to have been substantially cut following the hotfix. I had a Heavy Pick with +51 bonus that is now +17. I'm guessing we will see other changes as well. I'm curious if all the spell implement bonuses on the new stuff were 3x what they should have been.

    that seems screwed up.
Calculation was supposed to be 3x the '+' of the implement.
    http://ddowiki.com/page/Spellcasting_Implement

    So a +6 implement would give a +18 bonus.

Update 29 was screwed up from what I could tell since it was giving 7x the implement '+' value.

A +17 bonus doesn't fit the calculation..so... did the calculation change?

It definitely is not giving 3x the + at this point.

The toon I'm on is level 18 and has a +5 Heavy Pick (+17 at item level +8)and a +6 Scimitar (+18 at item level +9) from the new loot system. I have a +5 Club from the old loot system that is Implement +15, which is what you'd expect under the old system and it has an item level of +10.

It seems as though they have slightly randomized the amount of Spell Implement bonus that is given on weapons. Maybe +1 to -1 depending on the other values on the weapon?

Because having the old 3x was too problematic

I figured it out. Before the hotfix the Spellcasting Implement bonus was 3x the minimum user level. Now it is the minimum user level.

Items on the AH and Shard Exchange still show the 3x the minimum but once you buy them they will be just the minimum level in your mailbox.

I purchased a really hot Shortsword +12 with +145 Light, +71 Light and +90 Spellcast Implement and it turned into +145, +71, +30 which I still think I am going to be using at level 30. Maybe better stuff will be out there but it will be serviceable.

Default Raid loot is still different

Perhaps be a little more respectful?

1] random loot might have 2-3 modifiers, including a +15 stat boost
2] raid loot sometimes looks like this:
Docent of the Celestial Sage - (Docent): +13 Enhancement Bonus, Fortification +159, Dodge Bonus +15%, Quality Potency +27, Sheltering +38 P/M, Parrying +7/14, Blurry, Deathblock IX, Quality Spell Focus Mastery +1, Green Augment Slot, Yellow Augment Slot

That's 11 attributes MINIMUM (if you slot effects into augment slots with multiple properties, i.e. Golem's Heart or Meridian Fragment, that can go even higher)

Raid loot is still special because they can have great effects and a lot of them.
Now random loot has the potential to be special instead of just garbage, as it almost always was before.

    I think that's a net win.

    Default intresting loot

Yesterday I went to Korthos island to run some favor.
I ran The Collaborator and pulled 3 vorpal weapons..
here is a screen shot of 2 of them - I gave a long sword away.

Somehow this seams a bit off, unless level 1 rogues get assassinate now lol.

Ask her to pull it out of the bank and look again.

I'll bet its now +8ish and still not registering on the character sheet.

That is correct. Smaller number, but still no actual effect.

The first week or so is to blanket you. The fix is to keep you interested.

It happens almost all the time they have some sort of loot change. They did it with Ghostbane. The sorta did it with the pre-ghostbane loot pass. And they are doing it now.

    * With the notable exception of Lord of Dust loot. A full pair of Envenomed Blades anyone?

Does that mean sometime in the future I'll pull weapons that will benefit melee/ranged characters and not just spellcasters? I'm all for it if that's the case.

Older raid gear wont, but thas okay because as they add more raids and more raid gear it will just keep getting better

To put it in context, I am not a casual by any stretch. I ran ee tempest and hox opening day as well as eh shroud, ee was just too laggy. I don't feel threatened by the lootgen items in the slightest. In fact this will increase the number of people I can raid with.
I've played this game for seven years and raided on over 30 characters, and honestly, as long as the effects on these new items get cleaned up, I don't see anything truly threatening.

One day they'll probably do a pass on raid loot and we'll have to re-raid for items. Boohoo. We'll have an incentive to keep playing this game that we all love.

    Yay.

I've pulled some decent melee & ranged weapons. Definitely a minority (feels like a small minority) of the weapons, though.

The standard colors are also rare drops. The exclusive colors are store-only.
