Default PDK Ranger and no LR+1

I posted something similar in the Iconic thread but there doesnt seem to be much traffic there.

Im wanting a PDK - Ranger life so is 18R / 2F the best mix here? I dont plan on using an LR+1 since Im going to TR at 28, so Im assuming the extra Fighter feat is going to be useful. It will be a ranged build, not melee.

If Im already giving up the Ranger capstone, are there other mixes I could consider, like 6 Fighter? Not really interested in a yellow bar, so no Monk. But other classes combined with Ranger and Fighter could be interesting.

Im planning on a Strength build just because Im lazy and that is what Im used to, though could instead go with Dex if that is easily doable (Ive never used a Dex to damage build so not sure what is involved).

Weapons will most likely be Bow of Sinew, Silver Longbow, Lit 2 Bow for Heroic, I have a Cannith Earth Bow for 20, and in theory I can use a CITW box to get Pinion and then upgrade it. Given I will TR I dont think I will bother with a TF weapon.

+4 tomes across the board, or maybe I have a +5 Int tome. 32 point build but no completionist as I havent bothered buying Warlock yet.

If you are going archer don't go less then 18 you want the crit multiplier from AA core 18.

18/2 or 18/1/1 is fine since you can't go 20, Rogue (Trap Skills), Barbarian (Run Speed), or maybe Favored Soul (Divine Might).

Hadnt even thought of Barbarian. So I would go CN alignment for that? Someone else is handling traps. Divine Might sounds good if I go for a Str build.

I know Elves can get a Dex to Damage thing going, and Harper has Int to Damage, but where in the Ranger tree does Dex to Damage come from?

    Cheers.

Improved Weapon Finesse in Stalker gives Dex to damage with bows.

While rgr 18 / ftr 2 is an obvious choice, unless you really need the extra feat, I think I would prefer barb or FvS / cleric splash:
    • Barb: +10% run speed, +4 STR/CON from Rage, +3 dmg from Imp Power Atk enhs applies to Heavy Draw (+8 dmg total)
    • FvS / cleric: Div Might, Spellcraft class skill (+12 ranks), +5 Fire Spell Power from Warpriest core

So let's take a look at a couple of build possibilities. First up, barb splash w/Harper & T5 DWS using Div Crusader:
    Code:
    PDK Archer
    18/1/1 Ranger/Barbarian/Fighter
    Chaotic Good Purple Dragon Knight

    Level Order

    1. Fighter 6. Ranger 11. Ranger 16. Ranger
    2. Barbarian 7. Ranger 12. Ranger 17. Ranger
    3. Ranger 8. Ranger 13. Ranger 18. Ranger
    4. Ranger 9. Ranger 14. Ranger 19. Ranger
    5. Ranger 10. Ranger 15. Ranger 20. Ranger

I love the look of that Barb splash. But why do you go for Precision and Power Attack? One for bosses and one for trash?

Also, Precision cant be used with Rage?

    Cheers.

I think 1 wizard 1 fighter would be a good mix....for 1 sp invisible, spellcraft as a skill, extra feat of maximize for your cures (and if it boosts spell power for your arrows, something I need to test) which totally allows you to bypass empower healing for a more costly and powerful feat though you get more spellpoints from wizard to compensate.

Thing is...you will lose a lot of initial skill points at the beginning going PDK. Now 1 rogue 1 wiz 18 ranger SK would be something I would consider. Going into Harper you will get ranged, melee, and spell power....which as an Arcane Archer is what you are shooting for.

The trick is getting enough intelligence to crosstrain all the skills you want and enough dex for combat archery.

just so you know your actions are equivalent to walking into a store, where two customers are talking about the weather, and you interrupt them with a "hey %^&%^$ what is the $%^# is the square root of pi?"

a little basic knowledge of etiquette goes a long way dude/dudette.

some words that you may want to think about.

"better to keep your mouth shut and be thought of as a fool, then open your mouth and remove all doubt."

    p.s.

while it doesn't bother me, you may want to refrain from wishing someone personal harm on a forum. first, its just good karma, second this is moderated and such statements may or may not affect your ability to log into the game/forums. just sayin!

    Here is the sad part...
someone coming into a question area, asking a question whether it is on the same topic or not, would be nice to be given an answer, if the answer is known, without someone giving an answer that makes them feel stupid or out of place in an area that is suppose to be friendly and helpful.
Maybe, just maybe that person didn't know where to go in the forum area to seek the answer, or another thought, didn't know how to start a topic of his/her own, and believed that the only way to ask a question was to hit "reply to" on an on-going current topic, (which he/she had seen happen in nearly every forum topic area) and hope someone would be nice enough to give him/her an answer without making them feel unwelcome.
But, I guess that would be to much to ask for.
Foolish mortal, you thought there were people here that cared? You thought someone would give you an answer without attempting to make you feel stupid?
what type of world do you think you live in, HA
    Go figure

The sad part of this, is you could have helped by just directing me to forum that might help, or just saying sorry, but that question probably needs to be asked elsewhere, or better yet, not answer, and I would have looked elsewhere, which I did, and left it at that.
I am truly sorry for interrupting your discussion that was so filled with to and fro that I caused you such turmoil that you just had to come back with a hurtful statement toward me in return.
And I apologize to anyone I may have offended with my rash and harsh comeback. But truth is truth.

Here is a page with the answers you are looking for: http://ddowiki.com/page/Tainted_Scholar_enhancements Basically you build up depravity with blast/spells and then use it to activate abilities.

A word of advice: you will should expect to get less than patient responses if you barge in to threads with blatantly off topic questions.

Members start separate, topic specific, threads for a reason. If everything was posted as one big 'conversation' it would be impossible to see what was going on. It is normal to apologize if posting something not related to the thread (off topic). Starting a thread is very easy: there is a big highlighted button on the forum topic listings with '+ Post New Thread' - top and bottom of the page.

Thank you for your support. I really do appreciate your response and will take heed in the future.
That you helped me to learn how to open a thread is very helpful and I will begin doing that in the near future.
I truly am sorry for interrupting and will endeavor to not do so again.

Power Atk is necessary to open the Ravager PA enhs, which also boosts Heavy Draw. I take Precision because it's the only combat stance which affects ranged atks and stacks w/Heavy Draw.
Also, Precision cant be used with Rage?
Unfortunately, that's correct: Rage effects disable Precision, which includes barb Rage and Adrenaline / Unbridled Fury. [Fortunately, Primal Scream does not, IIRC.] So Precision is for all the times you're not Raged; since I didn't have the APs to spare for extra Rage enhs, that would be most of the time.
