double strike functionality

does anybody happen to know if when you doublestrike, there is a second roll for damage, or critically hitting? or is the result of your first hit simply duplicated?

just something interesting that occurred to me which i will have to play closer attention to.

There's a second attack roll, and (assuming you hit) a second damage roll.
