Default Community Forum Question on Fundraising

We've long had a policy to not allow people to advertise their Kickstarters, IndieGoGos, Patreons, or GoFundMe's on the forums. The reason being that there is uncertain accountability for these efforts, these are not typically 501c-approved entities, and the community in general has told us that they do not wish to see these posts on our forums. Changing this policy would involve more than a community vote; we'd need to get in touch with various groups within the corporate structure for approval, and there's no guarantee that approval would happen. That said, I'd like to get a sense from the community on their desires - would you like to see a change in policy?

Don't change it. I am so tired of people asking for money. I pay my taxes, I buy the things I want, and donate ONLY to causes and organizations I want and NEVER when solicited. I play DDO for fun and to unwind, and I don't want to see anything on here not associated with DDO.

if there is a national/international tragic event (i.e. tsunami, bombing, etc.) then Turbine can choose a course of action to take (i.e. community donations to Red Cross, memorial banners, etc.). Movember is a perfect example. No pressure to contribute, thankful if you do.

I don't care to read about the plight of the blue eared titmouse or someone trying to promote their garage band.

Another Don't Change it vote. I'm so sick of seeing "Tip Jars" and "Did you appreciate me not farting in your general direction? Go to my Patreon page!" everywhere.

No, because it opens up a can of worms regarding liablity and creates opportunity for scam artists. Plus some of the yakos here may end up suing Turbine and getting the game closed.

I saw the other thread. I'm fine with DDO/Turbine events or charitable events for things like Movember, but I'm not OK to opening up the forums to any request.

I don't see it as a double standard.

I have nothing against fundraising, but I don't want to see them on a game forum. I wouldn't be opposed to its own fundraising section of the forums and strictly enforced to only be able to post there. Not in General, not in Lamania, not in Suggestions and Ideas.

You are the one choosing not to play alts.

My vote is a hell no. I admire those talented young upstarts that give kickstarters a good name... however there is so much corporate BS, like what happened to the abomination called Pathfinder. Boy did they take people for a ride.

In addition, what good does this do for DDO? Even if its a successful kickstarter, it'll draw people away from DDO. Just a no-win situation for this game and community.

the only people i want to see doing this type of stuff is turbine staff. not anyone in ddo. if people want to do that stuff they can advertise it on the channels groups homepages. there are a lot of games who use kickstarter etc to do things for their games and i'm ok with that if its ran by turbine only. that is my personal opinion about this.

    so yes for turbine

no for anyone who doesn't work for them.

Edit- i want to mention that the fans have helped many games movies etc about things they loved. so if a campaign ran by turbine doing something like an expansion and we got to help and make some decisions for it then i would be game for things like that. those campaigns are used for various purposes. touching games, finishing adding more things. etc.

    Another "no" vote from me.

If this ever *does* get changed, though, I'd like to see them get their own forum that I can ignore.

That pretty much sums up what I would've typed.

I feel for some of the folks who have posted requests for help at various times. One recently sincerely moved me and made me wish I could help more, especially as it included good documentation that the cause was genuine.

However, I'm afraid that opening this gate full open would initiate a slippery slope that would be abused.

I don't mind if people post links to "hey, here's *thing I made*! You can buy it if you like!". That's dandy. The thing already exists. I'd even say if they want to post a link to, say, an actual video they made that promotes a kickstarter campaign or whatever, fine, people can watch the video or not.

Images? Embedded videos? Banner ads? Outright requests? No.
