    Default auto-pickup?

Some years ago I had my keyboard layout so that I could hit a key that would pick up anything remotely in range. It was very useful for grabbing things on the go: treasure bags, torches, etc. The key would never cause an attack action; it would only pick things up.

Somewhere along the line, that stopped working. I'm not sure if it was a game update or if I changed my settings. Right now, I have a key bound that will pick things up and never attack, but I have to at least soft-focus the item first, which means that I will sometimes miss a torch when I'm winding up a line of torches.

Does anyone have a working configuration where you can pick up nearby items without having to focus on them first? If so, how do you have it set up?

    Well, I use 2 keys.

    1) Select Next Interactable
    2) Interact

You can use them in quick succession.

To my knowledge this is a fairly popular method.

If you have default key bindings, these should be Q and E.

I play a monk. The left side of the keyboard are all attack buttons. :-)

Any chance of adding a one-key solution?

Maybe macros can do that for you, but I'm not sure whether it's allowed.

Hit the "g" key. It toggles auto-targeting on/off.

    I'd like this option.

yes it is - as long as a real live awake (ok semi-awake drooling on keyboard) human is present.

I've written these for myself in AHK (autohotkey) and are quite simple.

I found my problem. I had "Auto-target non-monster targets." turned off in the UI Settings. Once I re-enabled that, I could once again pick up items using Interact without having them directly under the mouse pointer.

Be fine with dedicating what keys you have hot bared. You can always rededicate the default move/action keys to the other keys you'd be able to casually hit while moving. It may take a little integrating, but, one ETR, and, you'll likely have it.

A toggleable pick it up on walking on top of the item would be a very nice add imo...

I know this is not a FPS, but taking the button of the moving keys or im my case of the controler (yeah o use an Xbox controler to play.. and b4 anyone says something i love mouse and keyboard as much as everyone... but my carpal tendal desease do not alow me to play anymore with k/m )

That is why I think those options are a bit of quality of time....

also it would be nice if the runearm fire button could be a feat like so i could move it to the taskbar instead of mapping it on the options... (arties breaks all my bindings keys coz of that)

I will do a quick tap of Backspace then U to pick up things when playing from the office. At home, I have a mouse with two side buttons, and use one of them for U combined with Auto-Targeting on.
Have fun, and don't forget to gather for buffs!

I use q and e, and have remapped g (auto target) to control+g, and g is now the 'do you want to' YES button. also have mapped y to interact of first hireling bar... and ~ to be 1st dialog accept... means can speed through picking up anything (including Mysterious Remnants (Champion Chunks)) and most NPC dialog real, real, QUICK.

I have to wonder why this isn't automatic tho?

Mysterious remnants - no reason why I would ever want to NOT pick these up
Most "Bag" items - again, no reason to not pick these up

So why aren't these auto looted? I know Turbine has the technology to do it.

Its one of these things that has always bugged me about games with "Drops", where the only thing "Stopping You" your personal patience and if you value your time. This is especially irritating in strategy games where you kill enemies who drop chests and you have to "open" the chests before the combat ends or... for some reason, your team decides that since the combat is over there is no point in walking over there and getting the loot. SO MANY TURN BASED TACTICS GAMES HAVE THIS STUPID MECHANIC.

So again.. why in this day and age are players expected to run around looking for drops on the ground in a room that has been cleared of enemies? Give me an Automatic AoE item vacuum please.

I have the first use/interact in the keybindings set to a key. I can hoover my mouse cursor and use that to pick up or use. Very helpful at times.

I remapped my whole keyboard so long ago that I had forgotten that the default keybindings dedicated letters to movement.

Anyway, here is my one-key solution:
    • Bind the key to toggle auto-targeting and turn it ON.
    • Turn ON auto-targeting non-monsters
    • Turn OFF auto-targeting monsters
    • Bind Interact and use it to pick up anything remotely nearby

I am not sure if it matters much but I have the feeling that unchecking the box "combat tales precedence over non-combat" helps a lot in picking up things. Especially when you have auto-target on.
