Not that it would ruin anything for anyone anyway, but it's still a better solution than the one you guys seem to be taking right now.
Absolutely 100% percent in agreement with you on this idea.
"When asked if the developers hate the players, as they make so many challenging jumping puzzles, their response was that they have what they consider a “… normal amount of contempt for the players.” This is good. A dungeon master should always nurse a healthy contempt for his or her players."

So ingredients from mabar were duped so you change it to punish the cheaters.... so I would guess that EVERY ingredient that was around during the time will end up being changed under this mindset? Sorry but I think there is more to this.

You didn't remove the CC items from the game, they could have been duped.
Non removal of winter scrolls and motes (same as night motes) further supports the mindset that you are not saying the real reason.

Call me a tinfoil hat wearing person if you want, but your comment makes it seem like you are trying to move people against others. Saying that one group of unidentified players are the reason for something being removed has the risk of starting a witch hunt. I think that mabar was used mostly due to the fact that people wanted it back so bad, something that is well know after the feedback from the mimic fail event (nothing better then forcing people to play an event just to say people did)

If you wanted to make a new event to replace mabar then do so, new ingredients is also fine. The problem is that people wanted to finish things they could not prior, something that you have made seem like would be available when people asked. Punishing everyone for the actions of the few is how things get out of control, read a history book.

    Ok...where do i even start.With the obvious, i guess.
An event is well, an event. The only guarantee you have is that it will last until it was stated, and that is the time you have to participate in it and make use of whatever rewards it has.If people paid a closer look to mabar and well, not even just mabar, but crystal cove too, it would be really easy to notice that they havent always showed up in a time frame that is coincident with the date they are supposed to represent, in theory.

You did not pay to participate in any event, you did not sign any contract in blood with turbine saying they must supply you with ways to gather ingredients and to spend them for an event they have choosen not to be made available anymore. To expect that turbine will continue to support an extinct seasonal content is delusional, regardless if theres cheating involved or not.

Mabar was a failure. Its downfall was long overdue. The shared instances were the greatest part of the fail, and now turbine is crafting a new event that is the opposite of that, wich is good.

To those claiming that im privileged and finished my items while the people suffer without the completion of their mabar items that are vital to their survival...i say yes, i did complete my items, the ones i wanted at least.I destroyed some unfinished ones by the second or third year, because well, mabar items are outdated, theres several other pieces of gear that are better than the mabar items. And you dont even have to relly on an event to get them!

To those saying that they are beign unfairly punished by the actions of others who cheated i say well, life is indeed that way, we have to pay the price for idiocracy of others all the time.
But , lets be honest, what have you done to stop the cheatery.Lets be even more honest,we all knew there was cheating involved. It was widely discussed in pug groups,in channels, there was a multitude of idiots claiming they cheat and they are cool. How many of them did you report? How many of them did you even tell to ****.

Lets get over it people.Mabar is a closed chapter, and so is duping, hopefully.

This is the issue: they closed it early. BEFORE the time they stated the run would be complete. And not just the last one either.

I'm among those stuck with all the motes and most other ingredients to make the +11 wands and some other things, amounting to literally THOUSANDS of motes that I did work MANY hours for. It closed early; the issue is not that it ended and didn't recur (at least to some of us). When Turbine closed Mabar early they stated it would return AND IT NEVER DID.

I've never duped an item, heck I even refuse to purchase auctions that appear too good to be true in the assumption they are duped, but have been slapped in the face here. A lot of wasted effort combined with being told for years to not get rid of the ingredients only to see them turned into junk. Thanks, Turbine; this will be remembered.

And yet raid timer bypasses are still being used freely?

That is a valid point.Turbine could make the turn in npc appear for a few days, so that you could use the old mats for old items.I reinforce my case thought, that the old mats should not be used for the new items of the new event.

Im assuming here that there will be new items for this event, not the old mabar ones.Items, not just mats.
Peraphs a dev could confirm this?

You make it seem like people are asking for any more then that. Though it would be nice to switch them to new items or anything outside of old mabar items, I think people would just be happy to be able to use them for what they intended to when they invested the time into it. Asking for more then that should meet some resistance, but asking for something fair should not be ignored or declined for bogus reasons.

Not deleting? OK, well, I did notice the name changed to "crumbling mote of night" with the description "These motes once held the very power of Mabar, but no longer; they are crumbling into dust." So...does that mean they will eventually disappear over time?

Once could easily infer that from the description.

Honestly I feel a lot of players are getting butt hurt over something that you equate to hard work to get. It wasn't hard work, just time spent. If one is prepared to quit over such a small insignificant thing then I'm surprised that they haven't yet. They closed this event down early many times due to how bad it was in game. People always raged over the event even being active and it was broken so much that it often resulted in much more pain for the players that didn't care about the event in the first place than those trying to actually get the items. Like someone earlier said it's been around since 2010. It is 2015. That is 5 years that you could have gotten the things. The developers are closing the event permanently. With many good reasons. So you want your loot, you can get your loot from the mimic event. This new event is not at all linked to Mabar, just in the same general time period. (can't say any more than that due to being afraid of accidentally stepping on the NDA). Should I be mad that I can't turn in my festivult things to the Risia vendor? Or vis versa? Complaining about Dupers causing the developers to ruin the motes of night is absurd as well. Crystal Cove materials were probably duped as well, but they aren't getting rid of it. Because the event itself isn't broken. Your deprecated materials will work for the deprecated event if it ever comes back (which it wont). Things like this have been done before and probably will be done again. It is done in most MMOs.

This is a new event with new materials. Your old event with your old materials is gone. Asking to get something out of it is absolutely absurd. We all had our chances to get that gear, and if we want that gear we just have to participate in a different event that is much easier, less laggy, and a bit funner.

I've been playing this game for six years now, I've worked just as "hard" if not harder than most of you, spent more time working on getting these items for my 36 characters. I don't have all the gear for all my characters yet, but am GLAD that this event is being shelved permanently. Even though I don't have my items yet. If the items were simply gone and couldn't be gotten anymore I'd be upset but would probably just look forward to new items that will come in their place. Please if you enjoy this game to any degree at all then log into ddo, do your favorite quest, and realize that it isn't the end of the world.

You could atleast introduce trade-in that trades all old never-be-useg-again ingredients for "nothing" so each of us dont need to spend hour on wiki and in our bags figuring out what we can delete.
If trade-in ingredients->nothing is hard to implement then implement ingredients-> token of pointless farming and we can then easily delete those tokens or keep them as memento

In your collectables bag, the Mabar ingredients are conveniently categorized under Festivals -> Mabar Items. Delete everything in that section. Shouldn't take more than 30 seconds per character.

this whole blame here blame there game is kinda moot exercise. for the record though, maybe if you HAVE to assign blame dont solely put it on dupers but rather on the fact that dupalooza was in effect for about a YEAR despite the fact that it has since been demonstrated it could be reliably fixed within 2 or 3 hotfixes over the course of maybe 1 month dev time spent on it, ONCE somebody started giving a flying kobold ...

that being said I deem it better to not derail ourselves with blame game at all and rather consider under which circumstances this ranting is not needed in the first place. these are as follows:

    a) the new mabar is generally fun, in a group way and in a fun-grind way
    b) the new mabar is relatively lag free (comparatively speaking within the realms what is possible during the current state of affairs)
    c) the new mabar has all the old items
    d) the new mabar has some NEW items, both flavour/fun as well as useful
    e) the amount of mats needed to be grinded to get BOTH your old stuff upgraded, or "new" old stuff for alts or new players (do think of new players, too plz?!), as well as some brand new shinies IS ACCEPTABLE

in short if people can have fun without lag while getting what the shenanigans about old mabar stopped them from getting in some part, and get some new shiny thrown atop, everybody happy, problem solved, or am I missing something?!

finally, and I'll make that bold
    F) as in FINGER of pay to win/pay to not grind overly much. PLEASE don't give it to us. the old lag dragon plus dupalooza and the way you first NOT dealt with it and now deal with it belatedly did indeed make things about mabar items more frustrating for some honest folks who held on to their mats. While its true nobody is entitled to this stuff at all, and it is a special event where in a way every special thing you get is something you shouldnt "plan" on but rather a happy surplus - the whole issue from laggy shadow dragon to mimic mote mixup on ASAH to "keep your mats"/"oups no dont j/k" was handled, shall i say "sub-optimally" ...

So maybe this shouldnt be the festival where you plan on making extra revenue with double mat pots or the likes, but it should just be the festival THAT YOU MAKE RIGHT, TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY.

    thank you.

So make them all BTA including the motes so that way they can not be traded to others, or you can just punish every single player for the actions of a few... yeah makes about as much sense as a chocolate teapot.

I hope that the old Mabar loot will be made available in the new event along with new loot because the Mimic event sucks imho, a totally random chance of getting the cards you need to get the right item sucks big time.

Well, Turbine can't deprecate items that they sell in the DDO Store, and I suppose it would be near impossible to determine which ones were duped at this point.

But I can't see how allowing people to turn in their old, hoarded Mabar mats could even remotely have the same level of game impact as all the (presumably) duped Raid Timer Bypasses, Jeweler's Toolkits, Shroud materials, Thunder-forged materials, etc., that used to flood the Auction House. Those items clearly have a far greater game impact than the very narrow list of old Mabar items one might get for their old materials.

I think the main difference here is that if Turbine tried deprecating things like Raid Timers, Shroud materials, and Thunder-forged materials, then they'd totally lose a huge portion of the player base. Just from my family alone, they'd probably lose several VIP members over such a move. If you start throwing out broad categories of stuff I've spent years accumulating, then I'll just go play another game.

The DDO powers-that-be are assuming that few paying customers are going to be angry enough to rage-quit over just the Mabar materials, so they think they can draw a line in the sand here. They are probably mostly right -- it's just not quite important enough for someone that's been playing for years to quit over, unless they were really close to quitting anyway.

Here is where they are wrong: Every step that a company takes that erodes customer trust and brand equity is one step closer to the grave. People may not quit en masse over this, but increasing the degree to which customers feel that they are just being jerked around and taken advantage of by the people who run a game is foolish.

I think some people in this thread are forgetting the reason why we have a new event in the first place. could the real reason be because the ingredients got so out of hand from duping? maybe, but remember we were told that Mabar was unfixable and decided to close it down for good. there were a lot of complaints from players that the devs couldn't fix the lag and looking into a new event, but also a lot of players happy to shut down Lagbar for good. Cordovan told us some months back that it would be wise to hold on to old Mabar ingredients because you never know if they would be re-used for some reason. probably at the time there was nothing official just yet until now where we are told we now can destroy those ingredients. sounds to me 2 birds with 1 stone scenario.

I put a lot of effort into collecting those ingredients too, but im not complaining that the time was wasted or that honest players are getting shafted because of the cheaters. I might as well complain about everything else in this game if that was the case. its a new event and one that I will participate in only if its worth the trouble as in rewards I want. its a time sink game in case you guys forgot.

I have a feeling that a lot of this (anger) is to culmination of the past few years within DDO.

Update 21-2 new packs with a total of Three Quests (even though I enjoy both packs) and Anniversary Card
Update 22 -Epic 3BC and "breaking the game with Bards"
Update 23- Epic Litany of the Dead and "breaking the game with Armor Up"
Update 24- Heart of Madness (3 quest pack "very meh"), "Champions ruining the game", and "breaking the game with Barbarians" and Mimic Hunt. BONUS GLAMERING!!
Update 25- ToEE (enjoy it but some people "hate it") and "breaking the game with Rogues" BONUS Monster Manual!
Update 26- "WARLOCK BREAKS THE GAME." New no Crystal Cove Items (level 28 stuff or Augments)
Update 27- Trials of the Archons (3 quest 1 raid "partial meh") BONUS MONSTER MANUAL!
Update 28- Demon's Gambit (4 quests "short, easy, meh") and "Breaking the game with Rangers"BONUS MONSTER MANUAL!

The good will for Turbine is pretty low if not gone.

    Default Missing smoething

I think most people here are miissing a very simple truth:

Turbine doesn't have to justify their decision to anyone. There is no part in the contract that requires Turbine to run Mabar at all, much less keep certain items/mats useful.
It's really that simple. Turbine could shut down every F2P quest indefinitely and no player would have any legal leverage to make Turbine open them again.

Another thing: I really don't think you can use the term "putting work" into farming mats. It's not work, it's playing a game. Noone is paid to play , noone loses income because they play (well, if they go home early to play, perhaps, but it's entirely their choice).
