Angry Nothing but problems after upgrading to windows 10

Foolish me, I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 about a week after launch and have had nothing but problems with DDO (and nothing else) since. Immediately after updating, I started experiencing extremely long load timea and zone in crashing 25-33% of the time; I started keeping a second window open so I could relogin fast enough to keep up with PUGs. Eventually I got tired of that, and uninstalled/reinstalled DDO. That's when the real problems started; now I can log in and play once after every reinstall, but I still crash. When trying to relog, I receive Game Error 201: Can't open the data files. Check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them.

I've run several malware scans (per suggestions on this error, all of which appear to be at least 3+ years old) and tried running as administrator with no luck. All I can do is reinstall the game, log in once successfully and then get the error again, forcing me to reinstall again to play for one login. Result: I can play DDO ONE TIME every reinstall.

    Anything I'm missing?

I couldn't get past selecting your server and got the 201 error every time. I reinstalled DDO 3x before I figured it could be upgrading to Windows 10 that was the problem. im computer illiterate so went back to Windows 8.1 and reinstalled DDO. haven't had any problems since. I know it has something to do data files needing permission, but everything looked good to me going by what I googled. I didn't like Windows 10 anyways.

You are the one choosing not to play alts.

Casual player now investing way less than I used to into the game, playing 1-3 months at a time and still want nothing to do with Reaper. #improvepuggrouping#alldifficultiesmatter

Run DDO with Admin access, you can do this by right clicking on the shortcut and selecting Properties, from there select the Compatibility tab and tick the box near the bottom which say to run it as Administrator and click OK. Now try again and see what happens, when you downloaded DDO did you do it using the installer from Turbine? If so then check the link in my signature called Download DDO.

The problem lies in Turbines stupid installer which doesn't download the needed .DAT files most of the time, failing that running as Admin should fix the issue. I had a similar problem with W10 and found that I had to run it as Admin even though my account on the computer is an Admin account I still had to elevate it for it to run properly.

I should have mentioned initially: Yes, I have tried running as admin.

Do the DAT files actually exists at all in your installation folder? I assume they do since you can log in once but then have the issue so can you confirm that they are there before login and after? Sounds like something very hinky is going on somewhere.

I've since uninstalled again to use the files Stoner81 posted above. I would assume so, too, as I am always able to log in and play just once for a bit after the reinstall. Then after the next inevitable DC when I try to log back in, I get the 201 error.

i guess this is a lesson to any one that wants to use the latest windows OS and play DDO, i have tried every thing in this thread with no positive result and also research and tried mentioned fixes in with in the DDO forums, i have tried most of the mention options in these threads even though most of them are 3-5 years old and still get the following error when trying to log in:

the only thing i haven't tried yet is a complete re-install of the game or going back to windows 7, which i don't really want to do due to download limits and the fact that the free win 10 upgrade offer will expire after a year.
the mention of having to re-install windows 10 or reverting to win 7-8 is preposterous tubine should be working on fixing this issue not palming us off to a re-install, i could spend a lot time re-installing windows 10 and still have the same issue. is there a actual fix for this?? or does tubine insist that we not use win 10 which would undoubtedly be a big issue for the future.

The DAT files are missing from your install of DDO, if you have another computer with DDO installed copy and paste the files over to your computer and that should allow you to update to the latest version and play the game. You can also have a look at the link in my signature called "DDO-Wrapper".

no good, still getting the same 201 error. im not app smart, but have noticed the following:

no matter how many times i un-check the read only box, it still shows up as checked when i re-open the properties for the turbine folder?
is this a issue and if so how can i resolve it?
other wise i am open for any suggestions as i have no idea what to do.

Try disabling UAC and see if that helps.

thanks for giving me some options to try.
Ive also tried you ddo-Wrapper and it wouldn't go past this point:

was installing windows net framework for around 2 hours before i shut it down from task manager, now the launch dont run at all.
anything else you could give me to try would be great.

DDO-Wrapper does not need the .NET Framework to work and that screen is from the original installers which is in post #2 of my DDO-Wrapper thread, DDO-Wrapper has different screens. I would suggest running Windows Update and installing everything it finds since this will include the .NET Framework.
