Smile DDOGamer: Fun With Graphs - Named Weapons By Type

It seems like all the developers ever do is release more Khopeshes and Greataxes.

    -> But is that true?

Staves have been heavily pushed recently - Before the Chieftain's Spear was added to 3BC there were very few good named staves in the game!

Since the Chieftain's Spear was added we seem to have had a named stave added with every single update!

Also: A number of older named staves that no-one even looked at prior to that update have been adjusted and are now top tier - Theurgic Stave for instance!

The big problem with Staves though has always been the proliferation of Caster sticks! And the problem the Devs have with making a named caster stick that's both good for casters and a good melee weapon!

Take out the named Caster sticks from your Graphs and Staves, Clubs and Daggers will all drop in numbers precipitously!

You also have to remember that some weapon types have a couple of basically trash {worse than random gen} named weapons at very low levels that were created 6,7,8,9 years ago!
If you counted Ember, Collaborator End Rewards and Starter then a number of weapon types on that graph are shown as more common than they actually are!
    Take out Calomel and there isn't a single named Repeater between Lvl 4 {Hellfire - Light} and Lvl 16 {Doublecross - Light and Silver Slinger - Hvy}!

The number of useful Morningstars {yes and Hvy Maces} has always been a pet peeve for me.
The lack of named Warhammers is another!

P.S. Khops have been under-performing in recent updates - When was the last Update that gave us a named Khop other than Thunderforged?

Quarterstaffs have always been around in larger numbers because both melee and casters use them.

This is definitely true. Some are designed for melee and some for casting, with usually very different stats for each one.

my problem with quarterstaffs is they are some of the universally best blunt two-handers. one would have thought that mauls and greatclubs would be better for melee

The same can be said of daggers and occasionally other light weapons, those are often a caster weapon (bejeweled letter opener, obsidian dagger, ornamented dagger, etc)

Oddly, Mauls in 3.5 are arguably better: One handed weapon, 1d10 damage, x3 crit (Complete Warrior pg 154)

    What?

    Mauls are Two Handed Weapons!

Warhammers are One Handed! {Though I do think that these should have the same double duty as B-Swords and D-Axes personally - Could say the same for Hvy Picks.}.

Heavy Maces and Morningstars are One Handed!

The interesting part is that up until they made Riftmaker a Quaterstaff was the highest potential THF DPS weapon in the game (ignoring mortal fear) of course this is assuming it was built for.

More surprising is just how few people figured it out.

    Thumbs up awesome!

    nice work Geoff

perhaps another bar directly underneath the Quantity bar that reflects Quality?
    ie. usefullness?

    pick a weapon, any weapon...
Top bar shows number of available in-game.
Bottom bar shows how many (roughly, not opinion) are actually viable in-game.

When i read it, me eyes went naturally straight to Longbow...
    figured.. what... 5? 6?
    whoooops.
    to see that many?
    woww!

but lets face it, how many are actually viable?
Five. & thats not counting the omitted GS's.

lol would especially b interested in seeing the same bars for Armours in-game.
    --hilarious.

    again, great job & +1
