Seriously, thank you. I've been playing for years without problems, and suddenly it stopped working. No fixes anywhere would work, then I run across this.
Inside the file it said "HttpProxyAccess=Proxy" and when I changed it, 100% good.

    Default Still unable to play

It's been quite a long time since I've played this game, because of the issues described in this thread. The launcher starts, lets me choose a gameworld, then vanishes without the game starting.

I installed DDO via Stoner81's links.

I'm on a Surface Pro3 if that makes any difference.

    EDIT:

Stoner81's link to DX10 seems to have done the trick! Just installed it and the game is working, at least to the character screen.

    Thank you sir!

DDO Devs: please get on updating to Direct X12. Cheers.

I have the exact same problem.

I been playing fine on Windows 10 up until couple of days ago.
Although, the creator update messed up the aspect ratio, DDO was at least working.

Yesterday, I bought me a new graphics card (GTX 1070) and decided to do a fresh install of Windows 10.
What a mistake. I run DDO through Steam download and after the fresh install of windows and ddo, I get nothing when I run ddo. Not even the launcher.

Guess I'll try downloading the ddo client from ddo.com and try a fresh install to see if that works.

If the old graphics card was a Radeon, be sure all the Radeon stuff has been uninstalled.

Delete or Rename the UserPreferences file from "MyDocuments/DungonsAndDragonsOnline" (or something like that), and then try it again.

Just wanted to give an update.

So, un-installed the steam version and then downloaded ddo client from ddo.com.

    This solved all my problems.

The new install works fine and my previous aspect ratio problem is also solved.

Note, that I did a clean install of windows 10 and ddo.

only thing carried over was keymap file and ui save files.

Hope this will helps others with same issues.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

    DirectX 11 is removed during the upgrade process from W7/8 to Windows 10. My system has 2x nVidia GTX970 in SLI (which are DirectX 12 compatible), to get DDO working all I had to do was install the DirectX 9c (2010). However, do not use the web installer because that will automatically detect a newer version of DirectX and prevent the install, you need the full offline installer which is about 96MB in size and can be gotten from the following link;

Rise from your grave! Just wanted to ping this admittedly old thread to give people my personal experience tonight. I have a new computer (Yay!) with Windows 10, and when I installed DDO, I ran into the problem stated in this thread where the game launcher launched, and I was able to log in fine, but when I'd select a world and try to enter the launcher simply disappeared. I tried various things I knew about, including giving the client an exception in my firewall, running as administrator, making sure I had C++ redistributable installed, but to no avail. It wasn't until I ran and installed Microsoft's Direct X End-User Runtime that it began working without issue. FYI: The above link is fine, although it means you need to install the files in your system. A perhaps better link that exists nowadays is this one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ils.aspx?id=35 as it's a web-based installer, and does all the installation work for you.

Unless Microsoft fixed it the web installer will probably not work...

The web installer runs a check on your system to see what version of DirectX you already have, which on W10 is DX12, if the web installer detects that you have a newer version running then it prevents the install. The only way round it, that I know of, is to use the full offline installer for DirectX 9. Obviously this could have changed if Microsoft fixed this issue which I don't know if they have but pretty sure they haven't.

I hope, in addition to posting this work-around, you all are planning on fixing this. I play on a Mac, so I am not affected, but given what you described here, it sounds like everyone who upgraded to Windows X would have had very few options: either stumble upon this thread, figure out this rather complicated issue themselves (look at all the things you tried without success), or quit playing. That can't be good.

At the very least, the launcher should check for the situation and, if present, tell the user what they need to do.

From the viewpoint of a Systems Engineer for a software company, this is something that SSG should be fixing (probably in the launcher). Any third party components that your software requires should be included with your installation package.

If it is not included, then that's a requirements discrepancy and needs to be added.
If it is included but failing, then the installation is not being run properly for all use cases and that's a bug.

I realize that you can't always cover EVERY use case scenario, but this is hardly an edge case. Personally, I have problems with this every single time I reinstall.
IIRC from the last couple times I've had to reinstall, applying both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of C++/DirectX was the golden ticket.

I will need to talk to our engineers, but I think it's a DX12 issue rather than a Windows 10 issue. I can't speak for what we might be able to do to bulletproof things in the future.

As DX12 is only available to those on Win10, doesn't that rather imply it is a Win10 issue?

I think it's both, win 10 comes with dx12 only (even when you upgrade from a system that has previous versions of dx installed).
Prob from the assumption that dx12 is backwards compatible, never tested that but seeing from the amount of epic rants on the interwebs it just isn't.

When you install the game it does check for some c (or .net or whatever) libraries which seem to be needed for that dx10 fix.

Anyway, a real solution would be to make it dx12 compatible as well ofc.

Clearly I am not an expert, so sure! I did check with an engineer who has it on her task list to find a solution to this issue, but she was sidetracked by other pressing work, including the external Store stuff.

Yeah, I'd rather she work on the INternal store *g*

FWIW, I don't recall having a problem installing DDO on my new computer a month or two ago, with Win10. Which isn't to say it doesn't exist, just that it's not a universal problem.
