Default Considering a Wiz 18/Rogue2/Epic8 DPS wizard

I have a Drow Wiz 18/Rogue2/Epic8 PM that I havnt played much lately. Considering epic TRing him into a non-PM DPS Arch Mage. DC casting has some issues these days (please don't de-rail my thread talking about that) and I want to try something else but, for various reasons that have nothing to do with this character, I do not want to TR him back to lvl 1.

So, I guess my first question is, "is it feasible for a Wizard/rog to have decent DPS?"

If so, what kind of build considerations should I be thinking on?

If not, what are the issues with it?

I would like to be able to run EE without drinking 30 pots per quest.

Im not necessarily looking for completed builds, but if you know of a recent one that would give me some ideas (even without the rog levels) that would be cool.

Most of my BTC gear is caster gear but I would consider an EK if a DPS wiz is just a ridiculous idea. I'd MUCH prefer a caster though.

    Hi,

In most content it's easier to beat enchantment saves than necromancy ones. A build like the one you mention can be moderately effective with holds and energy burst, and could run in Draconic for the boost it gives.

Apart from producing your own damage, this playstyle helps other party members with theirs because they can play more aggressively since they don't need to defend, and they will get additional damage from hitting helpless targets.

My second character is built like this, and it works in most EE content. There are some raids I wouldn't take him into on EE, but apart from those he can normally make a decent if not first class contribution.

I think dumping DCs entirely would just lead to a build which is significantly inferior to a sorcerer both in damage output and endurance. It might be better to TR the character rather than run him like that.

Similarly, I think taking all of your AP out of PM and losing its excellent self healing might not be a good idea. Not being able to heal yourself easily does have consequences for your damage output too, and you can probably get most of the good stuff from the other trees while still keeping lich or even just wraith form.

    Good luck with it.

Thanks. Just the kind of thoughts I was shooting for.

I do want to spend some points in the mechanic tree (about 7 if im remembering correctly) since I am an INT based pseudo-rogue I may as well get all the traps possible. But I don't see a problem with getting Wraith form at least. Not a huge fan of the floating around thing but it'll be ok.

I had thought of the fact that I'd be nothing more than a sorc with inferior SLAs and fewer spell points. I do like the idea of enchantment. Hadn't thought of that. I'm cool with the party support role to a point. I tend to quest with the same folks pretty regular so that would work. I also do solo some, but not often on EE and I figure most any build can survive EH if I know the quests and I'm not in a hurry. I've got Draconic and Magister maxed out so DPS can come from that.

    Hi,

Another alternative is that you rebuild as a shiradi caster.

Although those builds usually include some FVS levels for SP recovery, they can still work without those enhancements. To make the most of it, you'd likely need to change a few of your feats and possibly do some regearing too.

Despite how the game is now, shiradi casters still have a lot to offer. And even without spell pen and DC boosting feats, you may find you can still do a bit of useful DC casting in certain content.

    Take care.

    TWF melee and caster hybrid.

With Harper you can use INT for to-hit and damage. INT is your main stats for casting. So you can have good DC and melee damage at the same time. Not as good as dedicated DC caster or warrior but not far behind.

Do your traps/locks, insta-kill, CC what you can, stand inside Ice Storm/Firewall, energy burst and poke them to until they drop dead.
