Fallen Earth is set in a similar setting, tho much less linear than I found the early Fallouts. (I only played 1 and 2.) Now and even before the company took a break, I always played it very casually (imagine that) and never made it to the 'end game' sectors. Wandering about, listening to the various NPC dialogs, crafting what I could, whapping on mobs that died in artistic ways (rag doll physics). The dialog between a couple city guards about the rules of the ancient game of Baseball is one of my faves. I'll have to paraphrase it here when I find them again.

Looking forward to that novel.

Right after learning about Good Old Games, I bought up a bunch of cheap, old role playing games, including a few suggested to me in these forums. They are cheap for a reason and I never finished any of them.

While I dabble at bad writing, completing a bad novel requires far more mental power than I can muster. Even a short story is beyond me.

Wherever they go, I hope that cows find it in their hearts to forgive humans.

Unless something extravagant happens I may not log on for awhile or only very briefly. Our central AC stopped working entirely, c'est fini, and it is currently 87 in the room with the computers. Not ideal for computers and that's with the windows thrown open and 3 fans running. I don't know when it will be fixed but as we live with and care for hubby's father it WILL HAVE TO BE quickly for his health and safety even more so than ours.

Okay got my wish granted. Tornado crossed us. We're good here but neighborhood trashed. Gonna be out of power for a while. Didnt get to see it cuz night time but stuck my head out as the debris started flying before joining the fam under the stairs. Will update when we get internet back ... typing on a phone sucks. Lol

Weather Service calling ours an EF2. One of 4 confirmed nados in the area, and we got the end of it's 9 mile long run.

The heat has not yet risen to "fry egg" where I live, not that I remember what the sun looks like. Tornadoes do not trouble my very small and tidy universe where time is meaningless. Excitement comes from the occasional creepy crawly that finds a way inside. All the half finished creatures and stuffed animals and drawings stare at me sadly, as if to say, "Will you ever finish me?"

Just an update, we have 3 window units going at the moment. We cannot afford to replace the central AC unit at this time, especially as EVERY company we've called for a quote wants something in the range of 16 to 20k. I'm pretty sure its because its summer and they know people are desperate so they know they can price gouge. One company actually had the audacity to tell us we might as well replace now because as the summer goes on their prices increase... "Supply and Demand, you know?" *wink wink* He actually winked.

Good grief. I would call them back in the dead of winter, ask for a quote, then offer half that amount. "I'll bet you do not have much business right now." *wink, wink*

I am back to crochet. While experimenting with ways to make a dragon head, I accidentally made a really good Kobold head shape. Now I wonder if I could make a Kobold body starting at the tail and working forward, then mate it to the head. Arms and legs should be easyish.

...and I finally HAD to get a new phone. Carrier ended 3G service on July 1, and I upgraded on June 30. Hate it. The only newer 5G non-glass-pane option they offered was backsliding to a Flipper. I'm more of a Slider.

Hoping the A/C thing found a resolution.

The 3 window units are the temporary fix. We'll have enough saved by winter to replace it then I believe, especially, if as we suspect the price comes down dramatically. Will probably make Christmas a tad skimpy but necessity over frivolity. Its crazy that they (AC companies) can get by with such business practices but its part and parcel of capitalism.

Sorry to hear about your phone. Working with an unfamiliar bit of technology is aggravating to say the least. I actually hate having to carry mine all about the house, people being able to reach me all the time... but then I'm a bit of a recluse.
