Due to a series of unfortunate events I have a goose egg sized bump on my forehead just now.

    The events were as follows:

    I needed some groceries.
Had to open car door to go to store.
Car door brushed limbs of flowering tree when opening.
This irritated bees trying to get nectar from flowers.
Bee dive-bombed my face as car door is being opened.
I instinctively duck flying, stinging insect headed for my eye.
Momentum kept car door swinging open.
*BAM!* Forehead and car door make impact.

Result is a lopsided forehead, headache, and small scrape. Thanks to ice no visible bruise but its weird how strangers kept looking at me in the grocery store like they wanted to ask if I needed help or maybe they wanted to know if I was related to Sloth from the Goonies.

I have added "trim flowering tree away from driveway" to hubby's Honey-do-list. After all, I'm the only one in the house with a sensitivity to bee stings.

At least I'm not the only one who can find odd and interesting ways to self-damage.

*Semi-hysterical laughter* I don't know what you mean...

Hubby just trimmed the heck out of the flowering trees. Of course this after son got stung coming up the driveway from the bus stop. Son is fine though, looks like a mosquito bite. If it had been me it would look like a golf ball under my skin.

Is weird about your irritable bees, tho. Honey-bees are usually pretty docile unless you leave them no choice but to sting. Sounds like you may have some Africanized in your mix.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised, some Ag students lost a couple calves to such last summer or the summer before not 20 minutes from here. But we've had these flowering trees for over a decade now with very little issue. It might also have something to do with the lateness of the flowers blooming. I noticed when I bonked myself with the car door that there were honey bees, bumble bees and wasps all gathered on the flowers. They don't usually co-mingle so easily but maybe they're just really hungry because wet, winter weather lingered so long.

Some days.... well, some days there just aren't words for.

I started off Googling my dad. He's buried up in Idaho, and I was thinking of maybe contacting the local American Legion there to get some flowers on his grave and take a picture to give my mother.

Well, in the search results, I saw a familiar name that *wasn't* my dad...

Stephen L. Hickerson, Sr., 68, of Garnett, Kansas, formerly of Ottawa, KS for 34 years, passed away December 3, 2016
Of course the obituary listed the survivors, including my other half-brother. So I Googled him...

William “Bill” L. Hickerson, 71, of Bennet passed away on November 10, 2018

Some drama history from before my time had split the family, but still hell of a way to find out.

*hugs* Sorry to hear that Cd.

I am no stranger to family drama. My grandfather found out his father had abandoned one family for another, when I was like five maybe... long after his father had passed. So he had a slew of half siblings he hadn't known existed.

I'm pretty sure there was something like that in my tree. My mother was dad's 5th marriage over the years, and the survivors lists for both obits were pretty extensive even without my branch of the tree included. Even back to my paternal grandfather who apparently was the odd man out of that generation, as pics mostly include my paternal grandmother and her follow-up husband.

Anyone remember the 80s band Shooting Star? (Not many do )

They'll be playing a local festival in a couple weeks. Last time I went a few years ago got to see Blue Oyster Cult. Small venue, up close, and... free.
