A recent overview of the base I was stationed at in England 83-86.
You can make out where the flight-line used to be, but that's about it.![]()

Probably not popular enough for his own thread, but mom was always one of his fans. I remember the first time I saw him on a talk show stuttering, then he got up and sang...

Grats on the book DB, getting something published isn't an easy thing to do
@CD - I hear you on the base thing. I'm currently involved in new house buildings on teh very base I started out at 25years ago. It's quite funny driving down "The Runway" to get to the mall there. Yes they did actually make the old runway into a road and call it the runway, lol. Whats rather sad is the number of people I encounter who have no idea about the origins of the road and think it's an odd street name :/

12hours till you poor poor americans suffer the indignant wrath of having my bodily visage desicate your unclean shores
Aka Vegas trip is finally here![]()
I love how I'm getting on my first plane at 9.40am on the 22nd and arriving at Vegas at 9.40am on the 22nd - same day, lol. Time zones are fun when you cross that date line
It appears that Jewel will be singing while we are there, the Vegas knights will be playing as well so thats 2 nights filled in. add in a day trip to Hoover dam plus road trip down route 66 ending in Canyon visit plus customary casino night and a day of wandering/ shopping my week will vanish pretty fast. Sooo looking forward to this as it's been a long time coming![]()

Daughter comes home yesterday afternoon, informs me that there's glass by my Jeep in the street....
Some jackwad was kind enough to shoot out my driver's side window.![]()
Call the cops about 6:30 PM to make a report. "They'll send an officer around as soon as one is available."

At 10:30 PM, as I'm getting ready to head to w***, they call me and ask if I still want an officer to come by.![]()
No, course not.
Few more minutes and I'm off to w*** & pass by two of our local finest sitting in parking lot few blocks away having a nice chat.

Good afternoon everyone,
Hope you had wonderful Thanksgivings! I'm still recovering from two solid days of cooking. My husband has a huge family (~50 ppl) so in addition to three sets of Bohemian dumplings, I cooked 4 pies (from scratch), one 23 lb turkey, and 4 side dishes including my dressing which has caramelized onions, toasted pecans, celery and carrots in it. That was just my cooking... some of the other wives added their own dishes and a couple of the guys fried turkeys.

Hello all!
I hope your holiday went well.
We have a special screw-up week at w***, and I already experienced my first ever migraine (aural variant).
Next time I know better and take unpaid leave of absence. It is hard to imagine, but sometimes people manage to be jealous of other's mental disorders.
Only three of the kids wanted starter packs so far, others talk about "steep learning curve" or just don't want to commit their time.![]()
I also found again one of my favorite webcomic, Irregular webcomic. Apparently new content started to appear sometime last year. I have some 250 strips to read to catch up. To those unfamiliar with this thing it is australian, made by guy who (probably) has PhD in astrophysics, is mostly done with lego blocks and contains lots of puns. It is a huge time sink with 3772 strips so far.
I'm Baaack so tremble in fear
CD - that just sucks, nothing much else can be said about that
Cooking for 50???? omg you need a medal Aelonwy, that sure is one mean feat to achieve. *tips hat*
And for the rest of yee all... there is drinks on the bar to be drunk
Vegas was Awesome. I loved every minute of the trip. We have so many tales of mayhem and mischief and drunken revelry that I'd not know where to start so will sum it up as one of our more reserved members said when he was asked how the trip was. His reply in a totally deadpan face and tone ... "It wasn't cr*p....*long pause for effect*... in fact it might have even been rather epic" lol
We started drinking before we got on the plane (all in moderation of course) got a limo from vegas airport to the hotel, stayed up till 2am at the bars (by that stage I had been awake for 68hrs due to working through the night before i left). Awoke and resumed drinking and wandering. The walk from our hotel to the one our english friends where in (only 0.7miles) took us over 4hours due to constant distractions from pubs.. who knew those pubs jumped out and set themselves in front of you like that!
That pattern of constantly been distracted from our task by epic bar stops never ceased all week. It also meant we "kinda almost got to see" the grand canyon but "kinda sortof seemed to have missed it" due to getting distracted with the sports cars we had, to the point we forgot about crossing time zones. Thus we missed the west rim tour by 1 hour when the time jumped ahead 1 hour lol. Those sports cars however.... A CAMARO RS and a CORVETTE STINGRAY really did make us not care about our epic fail as we had an amazing time racing each other all over the place out there. I never would have thought a car could still spin its wheels while traveling at 80mph but that corvette could. I want one now lol.
All in all they always say the journey is more important than the destination, and all week our journeys where so epic we all have zero regrets about anything
I must also tip my hat to you guys as you really know how to put on a sporting event. We got tickets to the NHL Vegas knights ice hockey game in Vegas T mobile arena and it was epic. I've not seen/ experienced anything like the spectacle of an ice hockey game. It's got me sold as a supporter now so I now have a jersey and a bit of knights stuff to decorate the house![]()
Lastly we all have come to admit that we over here in NZ are next to no different from you guys as nearly everything we had you had. We did feel you're rather backward technology wise in that we never saw a single internet cafe or public use computer, hardly saw any mobile phone outlets, didn't encounter many paywave eftpos terminals and most places seemed to be wanting cash over electronic transfer. For us cash is all but gone so it was a bit of an eye opener to see it used so much.
Oh and LA at night... omg that city just seemed to go on and on forever.........
Ok, back to work for me as I have a few hundred emails to attend to as well as the accounts I didn't get sorted before i left. Till next time folks![]()
