As there was so much talking of Jeeps, I figured I'd through my few grand into the discussion. (Lets face it they aren't cheep vehicles.)
http://www.jeep.com/en/renegade
So now that I have one of these (Renegade Latitude) in white (better to hide the dirt), what do I think of it. I've been having a lot of fun with it. So many reviews seemed to compare it with a car. Well it is a Jeep, not a car. So you are going to feel every single bump in the road, you are not going to go zero to 60 in 4 seconds, you aren't going to have a whole lot of trunk space (with this one any way.)
One thing I'm still getting used to is the 4 cylinder 9 speed automatic transmission. I'm so used to 6 cylinder 5 speed. However, to date in getting up to speed for highway or just needing to get up and move for city travel it has the power necessary when carrying two people. (I still haven't floored the petal to know how that sounds and feels.) So weight wise I don't know how it will handle with more yet. I did a test of just what sort of MPG I could get when it was strictly highway and I could set the cruse at 60-65. I was getting about 32 MPG. City seems to average somewhere about 20-23 depending on how much stop and go.
Love the fact that the gauge display has a center selectable that will tell me more of what is going on with the car. Tire pressure, engine light warnings, MPG, etc. I'm going about time it has the options to display all that (maybe such has existed for a while? I don't know as I was driving a 2001 Alero.) I don't like thin/narrow steering wheels, and this sucker is nice and fat (compared to some) so easy to grip for my hands.
I can hook up my phone to it to take calls if I so choose, as well as play directly via bluetooth or the front USB port. Speaking of, I'll mention one design aspect they didn't think through enough. In the front, there are two USB ports. Only the front on the dash has power all the time even when the engine is off. The port that is in the middle elbow rest compartment does not provide power when the engine is off. Why doesn't it? Wouldn't the place that you can shut to keep out prying eyes make good sense for a charger to remain working rather than have a wire showing something is connected for the criminally inclined?
With the tinted windows and (your own) windshield sun visor the vehicle remains remarkably cool even in this heat wave that is covering the region right now. Even without the visor it stays cool comparative. I didn't realize tinted windows would do that much.
Going back to the shock absorption, as stated earlier, you will feel every bump. The thing is how much will you feel it. So yeah, you feel all those little small bumps on the road that you probably wouldn't in a nice car. However, all those pot holes you fear in a car, you kinda just go “yeah.. there was a hole there.” and continue on as nothing really happened. I've been able to try this out due to how massively my home road is ripped up right now. Handling? This thing has a tighter turn radius than my car had, and my car had a pretty nice one.
The speed I already mentioned, but one aspect I didn't was how it felt compared to reported speed. Maybe it is the sound of a 9 speed transmission, but it just feels slow, but if you look at the gauge you'll probably find you are going between 5-10 MPH faster than the posted speed limit. However, because the police actually put up a MPH radar sign near by I tested out what the Renegade said it speed was compared to the sign. Renegade said 25 MPH, but the radar sign said 24 MPH. So I was thinking maybe it was because it came with 18” wheels vs. the beginning standard size of 16”. Well a larger wheel revolving at the same rate as a 16” would mean you actually would travel further in the same time period so I should be going faster not slower. So I'm betting something with calibration there must be wrong. But given I can't gauge the speed right yet, having a counter measure is probably a good thing for my driving record.
I do morn the loss of trunk space, but that is the cost of getting a shorter vehicle as well. But it rides nice and high so you aren't getting every single freaking headlight I your face at night. So if I want to haul wood I'm going to need to get some stirdy foam. I'm thinking a few pool noodles, then I can tie them down to the Renegade without worry about scratching it. One last closing thought. It is quieter than my Alero (remember that was a 2001) on the highway in so far as road noise, so I can only imagine that a nice car must be really quiet now as as I saw so many people complaining in reviews that it was noisy on the inside.
I have already been informed that I won't be driving it in the winter. As it has heated front seats the wife will be stealing it. That and she's wanted a Jeep for a long time. As it is 4x4 capable (and apparently really 4x4 capable per some Jeep reviews I read) it should be able to handle any forms of bad “off roading” we'll be doing to and from work and horse trips.
So next time I'm at Walmart or Target I need to get 3 pool noodles and a decent reservoir super soaker for the Jeep.
The super soaker is for all vehicles really. I want a new one just in case it ices bad this year.
doggo's improved, so vet's giving her more time. we'll wait and see.
Doppelganger? Whatever are you talking about, my dear?
problem with warhammer 40k for me is that it's not very accessible and it's expensive.
lack of warhammer stores in india means that i'll have to do orders of over a hundred pounds to get free shipping... which is not very easy.
not sure how long i'll be able to keep up this new found hobby of mine :\

Could be a calibration issue with the sign. I doubt they worry about keeping the radar guns in road signs as current as they're supposed to do with their cruiser radar equipment.
Our Escape has the same issue, though. I've checked with a couple different radar signs and get 58 at 60.
(So... My take away from all that was you kinda like the Jeep? )

Hello, my name is CD. ...and I'm a Jeeper.
But lately I've been having disturbing thoughts. Thoughts about how much more handy a pick-up truck would be. *gasp* I know, I know. In my defense, I was a pick-up man before I finally laid hands on the first Jeep of my own.
... *sigh* ...
These are troubling thoughts. The logic presses hard against the visceral attachment I have for my Jeep.
...I should sleep on this.
*I should've gone to sleep...*
Meanwhile, PR spin at it's finest!
IIRC, the parking lot has approx 19,000 spaces. At $30 they were making approx 570,000 per game/event. Now that amount will be 760,000.KANSAS CITY, Mo. —The Kansas City Chiefs said the changes to stadium parking pricing is about making the fan experience better and not a cash grab.
The team notified fans Wednesday that game-day cash parking would cost $40. ...
They are actually angling towards everyone pre-buying their parking passes for $30, but with an added 'convenience charge', so probably still near $40. And their definition of "fan experience" is getting thru the gates faster. That sounds exciting, no?
Pfft. Pro sports.
Mmmmm disturbing thoughts these are indeed...
I have been there... I... (*Clutches chest in pain) sold my jeep
to get a more family oriented vehicle...
This was way back when the youngling was mmmmm... 2 years old.
To this day I still miss that Jeep....
it was red with a 2" lift and 33x12.5 BF Goodrich Radial ATs...
It had a 304ci V-8 with an Automatic transmission and a Quadratrac transfer case.
(Which is rare for a Jeep...) A Heavy duty Brush Guard and Two KC Highlighter driving lights...
I had three Tops and the Hard Top even had a sun roof. *Sigh...
I even put a dual steering stabilizer on it...
I really miss that jeep.... Now I has a sad...

I'm gonna compare sads today and see if ya wanna trade...
Y'all may have seen a news snippet a couple months back about a data breach at Wendy's. Well, I was well within the at-risk group.
Yesterday, I got the call from the Fraud Squad asking me whether I had just tried purchasing $100+ here, or $100+ there... No, and no, etc. Logged onto my checking account, and saw a list of bogus pending charges, including $5.00 from a frikkin Coke machine!
So get to kick my Friday off at the credit union sorting bogus charges. heh.
Sooo.... Trade?
