What am I missing (high winds?), and why the power outtages?

larger demand for power (due to cold) can cause an outage.
The cold could build up snow and ice on the lines causing them to be a lot more heavy in the weather and break (and add in wind effects)
to say nothing of animals or trees falling.
Then you have humans ending up doing stupid things in an attempt to stay warm and stay alive.

There are lots of things that can cause power outages. Why it is so in this case, I don't know myself.

Yes, forgot that power production capacity can be exceded because of straight electric heating.
Or it could blow some fuses on trasforming station.
They used to call the Jyväskylä accelerator lab (JYFL) from the local power plant asking if the accelerator could be turned off for cold days. Of course they always said "No".

I guess we just have better wires, and more of them are moved underground. Of course now and then someone breaks some with a digger...

Oi.... I had to make it a 20th choice when I used to run it.

And lots of the wires up where the snow issue is are above ground and hanging.

I understand that you may not have winter tyres, there are not enough snowploughs or showels for that matter, and there are no snow-plowing sticks to show where the road is. Also maybe buildings are not meant to withstand a snowstorm. What am I missing (high winds?), and why the power outtages?

Lot of areas here in the states still haven't moved old overhead power lines to underground.

Northern states are fairly well equipped to handle a lot of snow. Other than the big Boston accumulation last year, most of it is just news filler. Tho if Wash DC was getting dropped on at 3-4"/hour, that's a pretty good fall rate. That'd be kinda newsy even if they don't get Bostonized.

I haven't watched any news all weekend to know how that went.

Colleges are training you properly for life out in the world. Have to make appointments for stuff, then have to wait for them to get to you when you arrive on time.

Thought I'd screenied it, but hit a nice roll on my Gold Hobbit Gift this past week.

Would be kinda like hitting a +5 stat tome here, bound on a level 1 Rogue alt. Totally burned up my loot luck for the next 6 months or more.

And some parts won't ever due to earthquakes. It is much easier to fix downed lines than it is to dig up lines to try to figure out where issues are in that aspect.

got into NIIT! whoop!
condition is that i get a minimum of 60% aggregate in my board exams, which should be simple enough.
even at the most basic pass marks, my computers will reach 90%, my english 80% and the other three subjects at 40% each (which is basic passing) nets me 58%, so it's a simple matter of getting 10 extra marks :P

In the process i find this 'cab' for walk-behind snow blowers. Am amused.
