what about check-in luggage? the only places i'd really consider applying are singapore and Japan, and using Japan's Amazon would be... tricky.

aye. i already have my multitool, which has come in handy so many times.
stanley's a good, reliable company, and having a proper kit, with pouches, bags etc would be very useful.

if i go overseas for college, or i have to stay in a hostel, i plan on buying the kit and taking it with me.
alternatively, i could maybe try to save up some birthday money and buy it meself.

Having a good toolkit is valuable. Having a big toolkit while travelling is a waste of effort. Assuming you have checked luggage by all means bring your multi-tool. A bag full of tools like that isn't necessary while travelling.

Remember, you can't always (if ever) trust the other people in hostels and in those situations you will often find you are sharing a room. You don't want a big bag of tools just laying around for people to "borrow".

Similarly when staying in a dorm at school. Your room mates and their friends may borrow your tools and lose them or forget to return them. Also, you aren't generally allowed to make major changes to your room and any repairs are supposed to be done by the landlord (i.e. school if in a dorm) not you.

That sort of toolkit will serve you well but will be a lot safer when you have a more permanent residence.
