The pediatrician put her arm in a brace and a sling and sent her X-rays to an orthopedic surgeon. Owing to how late the surgeon's office got the X-rays and got back with us, she won't get a permanent cast till Mon morning. Also the surgeon's assessment of the X-rays contradicted the pediatrician. The surgeon says she has a spiral fracture.



How can a spiral fracture have such clean edges? Doesn't a spiral fracture need surgery? I am not chill right now.

However, looks like the mouse-clicking hand will still work. DDOing over Spring Break it is.

Not all spirals have to go to surgery. If the first doc mistook the break for a simple (not sure how they could, but that's a different convo) then a cast *should* be all that's needed.

Bought to go crash in bed. Unfortunately no DDO for her this week, she's right handed and that's the arm that's broke. On the plus side she already ran the party quest enough to get her kobold. She named her Krystal (after a class mate).

Helping her change clothes for bed was a trial, not just in the logistics of getting her nightgown over her cast but also because she's in a lot of pain whenever she moves her arm. They put her arm and shoulder on ice immediately at school but I suspect there's some bruising we can't see.

No the real trouble I foresee is boredom. While both my kids can watch a movie or two or even watch a brand new kid series for a couple of hours they eventually get tired of sitting and want to run around playing tag or hide and seek or hot lava or other pretend games not excluding pretending to be adventurers battling beholders. I could have throttled his teacher for letting him bring home slime from a science experiment that resulted in them pretending to be oozes in the sewer and getting it all over the couch.

I'm afraid she's going to get bored and want to play with her dolls and be disappointed or sad at how little she can play with one hand or worse try to be active with her brother and possibly get hurt more.

On second thought maybe I can teach her how to move about with the arrow keys and keyboard more. She mostly role-plays pretend games with the NPCs anyway, she doesn't need the mouse so much for that.

Well bed is calling me. Good night.

Good afternoon all.

Congrats db! Good luck Bekki. So my munchkin got her permanent cast yesterday, we had to drive across town to get to the surgeon's office. Thankfully, although it was definitely a spiral fracture it was still in the right position so no surgery necessary. Our insurance doesn't cover extras and for some reason a water proof cast is considered extra. Apparently though pink, glittery and perfumed is okay because that's the cast she got. And when I say perfumed I mean like that stuff they spray in malls at passers-by.



Yesterday was also hubby's birthday so I made his favorite Neiman Marcus cake. That is a gooey cake with a baked topping consisting of eggs, cream cheese, vanilla and 4 cups of powdered sugar. My munchkin proceeded to get cake in her lap, hair and face. I will take the blame though because I set it down in front of her said I'd be right back to help her eat it and forgot she has zero patience, one hand, and access to nearby cake.

We had to bathe her so we got creative with plastic trash bags and duct tape around her cast. The whole time I had the Ingenuity song from Dot and Santa Claus running in my head.

Me too, of course our central AC is not working right and its difficult to get any sleep with the house at 80. Could be worse though, this could be August.

The AC guys finally came by, they were supposed to come yesterday but couldn't for some reason. Today we discovered we had a Freon leak; a tiny nearly indiscernible leak that had to be repaired (very easily it seemed) and ~2lbs of Freon had to be refilled into the system. ~2lbs?! I'm not ashamed to say I'm rather ignorant of AC systems and a number of other devices but I had no idea they used so much chemical coolants.

Today the house is cool, I'm comfortable as I go through my chores, and I'm looking forward to showering before bed, clean sheets, and a good night's sleep. So I'm quite contented.
