Doppelganger? Whatever are you talking about, my dear?
Nice.
Saw on the news that they had some WWII fighters on touchable display. A P-38 and P-51 plus others.
Heh. Then the story turned to the chaos of crowd control after the show. Downtown airport is in a super inconvenient location for handling crowds. It reminded me of why I really have never gone to one of the shows here.
Plus, after having seen a proper military air show from the side of the airstrip, civilian air shows are kinda pale.
Ya know that computer my mother uses for Freakbook that I swore I'd never touch when it finally went toes up?
Ya, well... it's a mom thing. Of course I had to try. I've spent all weekend so far fighting the d*** thing in hopes of saving the pix, recipes, and misc debris that she's never backed up anywhere.
Started off as TrustedInstaller going rampant (arguing with MsMpEng, I think) and locking the machine down. In fighting that, the situation got worse and worse until now I'm down to the basic Black Screen of Death.
Tomorrow morning, the bullet gets bitten and I just do a clean reinstall of 7.
You have any idea how many years it's been since I played with Linux?
*Maths*
Heh. You *might* have just started walking - in 2002/3.
I'll see what I can do. I can't even get a Command Prompt back at this point to manually shove stuff to a drive, let alone get the box to recognize the drive.

that's the advantage of the live session.
it's the OS running off the USB. pretty easy too, and linux is just a few GB in download. i'd suggest giving it a shot if you can. could save your mum's files etc.
essentially, you boot linux from the pendrive. it's the full operating system, so you can use files etc, and you can make the bootable drive from your own PC.

The only thing you could do... take it to someone you trust and ask them to save all possible data from it. If you treat it as a data drive instead of as an OS drive, you may be able to recover something. That is what I try to do when someone wants me to try to save stuff.
Baring that as Doom suggested, a boot disk CD or usb drive (providing the PC Bios supports USB booting) And it does not have to be linux. There are many flavors of DOS that are availability to be used for these emergency cases.
Me, after reading the latest about firefox and mozzilla, yeah... I wondered how much time it had left. Oh well. *shrugs* it had a good run in my opinion.

Picked up Ubuntu and made the bootable USB stick.
Puter won't recognize it, and is ignoring f8/f12/delete, etc.
"Nvidia Boot Agent."... Persistent irritant.

Time to take a break with something relaxing - like mowing the lawn. :/
