Best Wishes Bekki.
I've been in your position twice, and been fortunate enough to catch it early in both cases.

If I remember her lesson correctly, it was that the depression is neither an enemy nor a flaw. It is normal reaction to harmful environment and/or relationships. In her case the real sources for her depression were her job (or boss) and her parent who never had accepted her need to create art, and had made her to feel guilty for painting. After quiting her job and putting more distance between her and her relatives she was ready to start recovering.
Doppelganger? Whatever are you talking about, my dear?

That reminds me: most of the times the reasons are underlying or behind denial, because if reasons were obvious, they would be resolved through conflict long before depression forms. Things like a friend who really is not interested about anything You have to say, unless You talk about him/her. Or a parent who thinks loves you, but never makes you to feel good with smiles, hugs or kind words spoken in tender tone. Anything that belittles you, in general.
It could be lack of tribe, a group of people that makes you really feel welcome and safe to let your guard down. Like this place

Sorry, I just couldn't resist the excuse even though it was wrong decade.
Director of the group I linked used to be my co-worker. They also sing couple of songs in Chinese.
And have a myspace page
I miss the time without mobile phones, but othervise I don't know what period to feel nostalgic for.
It is just one more thing that makes me sad. Maybe it is connected to fact that I will be 42 within two weeks.
