Thanks, we just got back from visiting her (long drive), just in time to get our son from the school bus. She's doing okay, she'll need speech and physical therapy for awhile but I was prepared for much worse after the uhm... dramatic call from my sister. I almost kept my son home from school for the visit but decided against it because he's so very close with his grandma I didn't want him to see what my sister had me erroneously expecting. Thanks for the positive thoughts everyone.

    Default One Day Conference Swag

2 weeks ago the new boss says I should go to this conference. It was today. It was good. I wish the presenters could have gone into more detail but with only about an hour and a half each, they really couldn't.

Of course, the usual vendor booths to navigate between sessions. Which also means the usual swag. Lots of pens. Lots of squishy things with logos that you can't throw at your cubicle mates anymore because of the risk of HR violations. No USB thumb drives. Sad, I remember when they were all the rage and now I have to buy them again.

But, some of note. Best swag: a 10,000 mAH (that's 10 amp-hours) portable USB charger. 2 port supporting up to 1A each. Pretty darn good for free stuff. Bigger than it should be but free, so not complaining.

Weirdest swag: socks. You know, come in pairs, go on your feet. Socks. Company name on them, of course, but high enough up that you won't see when wearing long pants. blue and green horizontal strips but not obnoxious neon so definitely wearable.

Swag rocks - even the weird swag.

Oh, oh! I don't have anyone sending a card from Canada yet!

Her 82nd birthday is coming up and they're organizing a card shower for her, aiming for at least 82 cards. Since we cover a large portion of the globe, I'm asking if any of ya'll would send cards from your home turfs. I think it'd be awesome to see her reaction when she gets cards from around the world.

I'm deciding against posting her address openly, but anyone interested in sending a birthday card please PM me for the address.

    Muchly appreciated.

Thanks. She's still in hospital for another day or two, tests. When she's discharged, she's going to stay with my sister for a couple weeks so she's close to the place for physical therapy. We drove down there again today, to help my sis find my mom's cat (hiding in the laundry room), and move furniture around so that when my mom can go home its easier for her to move around with a cane (she flat out refused to use a walker).

Swept and mopped and dusted too. Long hair cat.

    Good afternoon all.

Got to play with my daughter this afternoon, first time in days. We finished the Carnival chain and started some of 3BC. Some enjoyable gems from her:

"Bad dog, bad, sit!" (To the hellhounds)
"Nobody attacks my Mommy!" (To the hefty, shirt-less tieflings that kept tripping me.)
"I'm so stroooong!"(Stands up in chair and kisses her fore-arm not bicep, after successfully ringing the high striker. May somewhat remember her father doing this at Ren Fest.)
"That's a potty? How do I open the door?" (3 stalls by rest shrine)
"Look, its the lady from the party... is she a bad guy now?" (Malicia)
At tavern between quests, "what food am I eating Mommy?" Answer, "Uhm porridge that's like oatmeal, and a dirty kobold." "Oh yeck, that's yucky!"

On the end reward list she got a Roderic's wand, and is compulsively summoning until she gets the good doggy as she calls him. She's named him Woof. She did not like summoning the giant spider. Woof had to be taken care of all over 3BC wilderness. There was a lot of swimming but some disappointment that building sandcastles on the beach wasn't possible.

That's it for the day. Hope it makes everyone smile as much as it makes me.

    Good afternoon all.

Finished 3bc wilderness with my daughter, at least getting all the locations. I was supremely glad I had made all her characters Underwater Action items before the crafting change. Swimming down to the hidden treasure was an exercise in patience. But she was so thrilled when "we" found it that it made up for all the stops and starts and wrong turns. She also really loved the view from the Bell Tower.

She has an SLA of Searing Light from her cleric tree that she has begun to use not the least of which because it has such an impressive visual effect. We ran the Minotaur quest out there and she enjoyed putting together the turtle puzzle, I let her pick up all the turtle pieces and help with the lighted puzzle tiles and let her try the wheel puzzles too. She had fun with all of it, but mostly she had fun running up to the minotaurs and blasting them with her SLA shouting "In the face! In the face!" But sounding something like a kobold. She's such a mimic.

Of course there are more sauhaugin in 3BC and she has this odd idea that the "Rotten Fish" are the ultimate bad guys because they were "taking over people's brains" on Korthos. I think I will take her to meet Fred later (with some further explanation about mindflayers and their role on Korthos) and see what she thinks of him.

As a small aside, she likes to go to taverns and eat the food and sample the drinks between quests, as well as talk to the people. Grape juice is a must have, and so is bacon. Every time. Her characters get awfully hungry and thirsty between quests so this can take awhile. I hadn't read the dialogue in 3BC tavern for years so I was amusing myself reading them to her until I came to the drunken wretch in the middle of the room that says "Don't tell my wife you saw me here, or my mistress, or her best friend," or something to that extent. I told her he said "I ate too much ice cream, now I feel sick." Which I think was a good translation of someone biting off more than he can chew.

Hopefully, more adventures tomorrow of the little girl halfling cleric and her dog named Woof.
