my windows 7 desktop machine is having major problems... I get all the way to the server selection screen, select the server and try to login, after a couple of seconds the program completely dies with no
    error mesage. help!

    1. this is a clean windows install. no firewall etc, it works fine on my laptop both wireless and plugged into the network cable
    2. also tried it with the firewall turned completely off... same problem
    3. tried uninstaling and re-installing Akamai... no help
    4. re-installed to c:\games\turbine... no help
    5. doublechecked port forwarding etc on the network through the DSL provider even... no help

e-mailed turbine tech support again, waiting to hear back
it downloads all the updates and patches just fine...

Its likely direct X, or Visual C++ problem. Or audio card/drivers.

If you get completely kicked out of the game, its unlikely an internet problem, like you are troubleshooting for. It's more likely your antivirus, or security settings are having problems with one of the 9000+ 3rd party software pieces DDO is using.

Also try copy/pasting your game over form an older backup. Downloading the game from official download usually does not work. Also did you choose version without instant play? The one with Instant play cloud whatever is rubbish.

Try running it in compatibility mode for windows XP maybe? For me that has helped with similar problems with other games in the past.

    1. hmm... ran the install without any AV or security software running including the firewall turned off... didnt make a difference

    hardware etc in question
AV and firewall run through paid version of AVG Internet Security
    Windows 7 Home Premium

soundcard is the onboard sound from an Asus Sabretooth mk2 motherboard
    16gb RAM
    I5 core 3670 CPU
Gforce 650 with 2gb for graphics card

odd question... the boot drive which the game is installed to is a 250gb SSD, and theres a seperate 2tb data drive, could that cause an issue?

    I never choose instant play
