    Default Mabar Re-Incarnated

The only good thing about being mired in the dog days of summer is that it means Fall will be here soon enough. And with the arrival of Fall & the traditional Halloween season, we should finally get to see what Turbine has in store for us as a replacement for the Mabar Festival. If you had to make a list of what things you would like to see included, what would you choose?

    I'll start with these...

Return Mabar as we left it, sans the lag issues in the Summoning Chamber.
Provide a means to upgrade or finish existing Mabar gear.
Offer trade in's or a way to convert old Mabar mat's.
Ditch Shadar-Kai & restore skeletal giants, or some other true form of undead to keep with the theme.
Until level-tiered slayer instances can be shown to work properly, keep it to a multi-level slayer instance.
If multiple players entering or running the challenge at the same time causes lag issues, set a cap on the number of simultaneous runs or players allowed inside.
Challenge boss... Draco Lich? Eternity? Surprise me.
"When asked if the developers hate the players, as they make so many challenging jumping puzzles, their response was that they have what they consider a “… normal amount of contempt for the players.” This is good. A dungeon master should always nurse a healthy contempt for his or her players."

Just bring it back (sans Shadar Kai) and stagger the spectral dragon opening by 5 minutes per level range... so the entire server is not entering the summoning chamber at the same time, and the peaks and valleys of the battle are not overlapping at all level ranges.

Put level 28 items in of course as again NO EVENT SHOULD RE-APPEAR WITHOUT SOMETHING NEW FOR VET PLAYERS TO ACQUIRE, ever...

I started this thread on the new Halloween event last year and it received a number of suggestions. One of the best ideas was to include a Haunted House that is pitch black like the 'Rainbow in the Dark' Vale quest.

I would like it returned, period. Even if they have to rebuild it from the ground up. I would like to see it more like CC, personally, in that everyone plays together, you loot treasure, and Guild Renown is awarded.

Actually, the one thing I wish they would remove from CC and Mabar, if it were to return, is the server wide unlocking mechanism. Just slap a replay timer on completion and reduce the chances of the "key" from dropping. Of course, you could still purchase the "key" (compass for CC) from the collectables you have been gathering, at say a 15% increase in cost (from previous years). As far as what is a good "replay timer," events can happen every 20 minutes during peak times while hours may go by during non-peak. A replay timer of 30 to 45 minutes wouldn't be too unreasonable, imho, and would allow people to run adventures for XP in between timers.

    Oh, for hope and dreams.

Yes, you did, and I read that thread with great interest at the time. Thanks to you & everyone else that offered up some great ideas!

We're almost a year down the road though, and I wanted to let the powers-that-be know that Mabar is still at the forefront of a lot of people's minds when it comes to a Fall event, and also to consolidate what others and myself have mentioned about Mabar in several other threads into one concise package.

Renown... a big YES to this. Even though the decay issue isn't what it used to be, remove missing out on renown as a reason not to participate in an event.

Timers could work... Prevent lag from the mass creation of instances when everyone enters the challenge at the same time. There's a small chorus of others wailing about this in other threads in regard to CC. The same mechanic could work there as well, great idea.

I'm sorry but the DDO year won't be the same without Mabar I understand it had it's problems but surely something can be done about that and if not why can't something be done in the same vein...as above I love the Haunted House idea...can't the dev's come up with something using that idea and stagger people into that place but working to get the key can stay the same as before? I agree with comments on giant skeletons coming back

    Please Please bring back Mabar!

I'm looking forward to seeing what the devs come up with this fall as well. I'm hoping we will have the ability to recycle those old Mabar ingredients myself. I really did like fighting Eternity and summoning circle. I wish they could resolve that issue.

Between the other threads & this one, along with some other discussions I've heard in game, there has been some very good feedback about monsters that should make the cut.

I agree, it does not have to be all undead. A variety of foes would make it more fun for all the classes to participate in.

Werewolves are a good option for inclusion, and they do fit the theme & season. (Apologies in advance, I can't remember who suggested this one)

Frankenstein is the most famous flesh golem in literature, so that makes flesh golems a likely candidate as well.

    Keep the good ideas coming!

ditch chain geeks...the skele giants should return!

I suggest 2 areas for grouping, heroic and epic :1-19 / and 20-28

I've suggested it before, but I'll say it again: if we want two areas, then we do Delera's (for heroic levels) and the Necropolis (for epics). It may be doubling the work (I hope not) for the devs, but it would also make some sense. Naturally the werewolves, flesh golems, Shadar-Kai (*IF* they are kept, but the chain-swingers are a pox) and what-not would show in the higher-level content, so it would make sense for them to be in the Necropolis.

I really like the idea of a haunted house. That's pretty nifty. Something like Sable Manor but bigger. I hesitate to suggest Dr. Rushmore's because it's so huge, but maybe that would be a good thing for an event with a lot of people? (And if they did Dr. Rushmore's, what kind of interesting story could they come up with for a Mabarian invasion of the safe house?)

The Haunted House idea for the Halloween event has received almost nothing but positive feedback from those that have commented on it, so I hope the devs seriously consider adding something like this. The Haunted House would be along the lines of A Study in Sable but completely black like A Rainbow in the Dark. One player would carry a candle for illumination in a holder and a party would have to work their way through the Haunted House, out through the hedge maze, and to the exit.

Werewolves and Flesh Golems are a must for any public area with spawning monsters, and I would like to see the Giant Skeletons return as well.

I really do think that you have a winner with this haunted house idea. If this was implemented as a slayer zone, it could have randomized hidden doors & passages, which could possibly lead to red-named encounters or mini-challenges. Or possibly random portals to the plane of Mabar, where all sorts of mayhem could ensue. There is a huge amount of potential for something like this.

    Default Bring it back!

Please bring back mabar next year. some of us don't even care if you fixed the lag or not. Give us the same old laggy mess, and we ( read as I ) would be happy all the same.
I support old suggestions and ideas that were never represented, and may dig up some odd things in the process.
If I am doing something wrong, please tell me so I can fix it.

I've said before that Mabar should be converted into a regular raid, but the map should be turned into a triangle, instead of a square.

As a triangle, it would mean that a minimum of 6 people would be needed for the raid: 3 on light levers, 3 on altars. This would give players 6 floating players in a full raid to either reinforce the light levers or altars, depending on the group.

It should probably not come back as an event though. The Gargoyles spawning and respawning in multiple instances at or near the same time just drags the servers down so the game, not just the event, becomes unplayable.

    Prediction:

Either it will come back as the same game crippling fiasco as before, despite having been "fixed" and will shut down within 2 days.

Or there will be no "event", just mabar items available from remnants vendor.

Or maybe change the spectral dragon part to a conventional raid? - you reset the timer by turning in a key.
