Default Guidance for building a melee class who can handle traps/lock

I am a returning player who has not played in years and am playing on a new server. I have 32 point builds available and VIPs but I have no loot and only a vague recall of game mechanics, so I may as well be a noob.

I want to make a melee character who is able to handle traps/locks smoothly throughout their entire level progression. My goal is to just do lots of quests, not necessarily power level to the top as quick as I can or have the optimal character. I am not tied down to any particular race or class, except I presume that I will need multiple rogue levels? Can anyone offer any guidance?

2 rogue, 2 fighter, 16 bard swashbuckler. pick up rogue gear, light armor and buckler, 2 extra feats with fighter.
Cannith! Too many alts to list. Lorrtusk, Lorrtank (my main), Lorrgar, Jimipage, Taurnish, etc.

Pre-U19, I made it to 20 with a Human 15 Pal/3 Rog/2 Rgr build that was a lot of fun. I did all my quests solo. Dual wielded Khopeshes, had self-healing and could pop the vast majority of locks and disarm almost all traps.

If you like to shot arrows and sneak in addition to locks and traps, a 12 Rgr / 6 Pal / 2 Rog would be the way to go. I personally only rarely shot arrows. I haven't played much since U19, so I can't say how well it would work with the new enhancement regime.

Rogue Akrobat and Rogue Assassin both got a boost and are nice to play now. Not "flavor of the month" min-max builds for easy epic elite engame soloing, but decent melee toons with good trap skills that can run EE in groups and EH solo.

My 15 bard/3fighter/2rogue is such an solo EE min-max build. Stacked Swashbuckler, Vanguard and Know the Angles from Harper for a very high DC with low blow and shield stun. Fascinated, tripped and stunned mobs can be killed with Coup-De-Grace using my perform DC. SWF + Swashbuckling + Exploit Weakness + Legendary Shield Mastery is enough DPS to kill high HP mobs fast. Stacking as much Armor-Piercing as possible is important for otherwise crit immune mobs. Light Armor/evasion + Pastlives + Items + Defender stance + Missle Shield gives good defences. The bards cure spells and cocoon grand healing from Leve 2-28. Good build to level ED's as it works fine in most.

the advantage of this build is that Ellisdee has lots of information throughout it
Wiki dashboard with some useful stealthplay links. LONG LIVE STEALTH!
Proud Knight of the Silver Legion, Cannith: Saekee (main) and some others typically parked at some level to help guildies and other players

    The obvious picks:

There are more heavily-multiclassed options out there, but these are a good start.

I would actually do 15 bard/2 rogue/3 fighter, for the defensive stance. Using swashbuckler shields you can have very good defenses along with great offensive power.
