    Post PLEASE HELP! - Can't log in - Issue Resolved

    Greetings all,

    I'm having a slight dilemma since the latest patch. I recently came back to the game after a short hiatus, and have been enjoying my time back for the last two weeks. However, since the most recent update yesterday (U26), I have been unable to log in to the game. Every time, the same issue occurs in which I launch the turbine launcher program and type in my credentials as normal. Upon the launcher stating that the server is up, and selecting my applicable server (Orien), the launcher closes without any sort of error message, and the game itself fails to launch. Please note that I have tried other servers as well to no avail.

    Troubleshooting steps taken so far:
    1) Reinstalled game completely (used both the standard and progressive installation packages
    2) Uninstalled/Reinstalled Microsoft .Net framework
    3) Uninstalled/Reinstalled C++ redistributable
    4) Modified Userpreferences.ini to disable opening video, then removed entire directly when that failed.
    5) Attempted to also install the game via steam when both Turbine installers failed.
    6) Disabled UAC
    7) Ensured windows firewall allowed complete access for (TurbineInvoker.exe, TurbineLauncher.exe, and dndclient.exe) – No other firewalls are active
    8) Completely removed Anti-Virus to ensure no possible conflict with the installation (will reinstall once the game starts working again.
    9) Completely stripped down all starting programs/services to allow for a “clean boot”
    10) Attempted to run the game in windows “safe mode” as well to ensure no program/service conflicts.

    At this point, I’ve run out of ideas. I’ve submitted a ticket to Turbine, but have not yet heard back from anyone, and am hopeful that the community may be able to assist. Could someone please advise regarding any steps I may have missed?

    Also note that I did just purchase the Shadowfell expansion yesterday as well, I don’t believe that has anything to do with the recent login issues, as that is based on the account, and not the launcher piece itself.

    Thanks in advance for any assistance that may be provided,

    Placebos

    (So after 2 days, this was resolved by the following: "The game calls on a DX9 API named "xinput9_1_0.dll". Oddly enough, my system diagnostics stated that DX was fully functional as we are up to DX11 at the moment, so an old API from DX9 didn't show up on the radar. After manually adding the DLL to my System32 directory, it started miraculously started working.")

    Thanks for your reply. Yes, I just logged onto a friend's computer who also plays this game, and I am able to get in just fine. Please advise.

    Good to hear. So that eliminates much. Troubleshooting is about elimination.

    where is the game installed? (search forums for error 201) - might be as simple as installing into a different directory or changing the security settings if in the wrong directory.

    check you video drivers. maybe when you start the launcher click options - and have it reset the graphics options / load in regular rez... bring it down to directx9?

    your best bets are those IMHO - and calling Turbine directly. Good Luck! Hopefully you get it working soon!

    Thanks for the ideas. Here is where I fare thus far:

    Different directory - This was done with another instance of DDO with one of the 3 I completed yesterday, but no effect.
    Video drivers - Nothing has changed, so not sure why this might affect it, but I will give it a go shortly.
    As for reseting the graphics settings, that was done as well to no avail.

    I did not however know that there is a direct number to Turbine support. Just Googled it, and I have: 1-855-924-2637 (hope this is right). Will try that first.

    Thanks so much for your feedback and I'll keep everyone posted in the event that anyone else encounters this issue.

    I tried that as well, but sadly I couldn't figure out how to get it working. I extracted it into a different directory, inputted the fields for username/password. But when attempting to right click the tray icon to switch the server, it keeps reverting back to Khyber. Thoughts?

    My first thought would be to see whether it lets you log in to any server. If DDO-ML works for login, that tells us one thing, if not, that tells us another.

    Just tried DDO-ML again, and whenever I click the profile I set up, it does the same thing... (nothing).

    Also, spoke with Turbine, and while they stated they would escalate the ticket I submitted, still nothing. I had to log on my buddy's computer just to let everyone know why I'm MIA. Trying to stay positive and hoping that there is a solution, but I can't for the life of my understand why I'm having this issue.

    Worst case scenario is that I format my entire computer, but that's a little extreme - not to mention a ton of work/time invested.

    Any other thoughts anyone? Also thanks to everyone who is chiming in - one of the reasons I came back to this game is the helpfulness of the community, and it's great to see the quality of player has not degraded.

    Maybe something to do with the Akamai Client? There were some changes, weren't there?
    I didn't read into it though. Can't find where I read it...

    Code:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <root>
        <shortcut label="Fast IN">
            <account user="######">
                <pass value="#####"></pass>
                <rename value="doesn't matter"></rename>
                <character value="#####"></character>
            </account>
        </shortcut>
    </root>
    SO shortcut label - what is the label of the shortcut on DDO-ML window
    Account User - this is your username when you log into DDO - case insensitive
    Pass Value - this is your password when you log into DDO - case SENSITIVE
    Character Value - name of character to log into - spell wrong or leave blank to go to char select screen

    Hope this helps

    Open up ddo-ml.exe. On the first run, it'll ask you to locate your DDO folder. Do so and press OK. Then enter your server name at the next prompt. Make sure you spell it correctly. If you need to change your server, right click on the tray icon and click "set server" and then restart DDO-ML.

    After the launcher closes without any sort of error message, what does it say in the dndclient.log file in your install directory?

    Mine is located at:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online\dndclient.log

    Ok, well I just finished my fourth full install, this time with the files stoner81 uploaded to assist the community with install issues, but that didn't work either. As for the log file, there doesn't seem to be one generated. Granted this is a fresh install, but I checked to see if the system would generate a log after I attempted to log in, but alas that didn't happen.

    I recently had an issue logging in after an update or patch earlier this year; it has happened once before as well. I think the the issue to somehow be a problem with the data files. In my case, I use Wordperfect and I think it caused a problem because WP has some file extensions that also end in .dat.

    Ultimately, what I found to work, was to erase the DDO .dat files from their directory (you can rename them or move them to an alternate directory if you feel safer). When the game then starts up, it will 'fix' them by noting it has not found them and reinstalling them.

    This process did not work with a reinstall but it worked as I describe. Why? No idea.

    Bet it has something to do with the Akamai client.

    OP, when you uninstalled DDO, did you ALSO uninstall the "Akamai Netsession Interface"? It will be in Programs & Features in your Windows Control Panel.

    While you're at it, after uninstalling DDO and Akamai Netsession Interface, run something called CCleaner (Google it) and be sure to run the "Registry" cleaner part of the program.

    Trying this now... definitely doesn't make sense, but I'm open to ANY suggestions at this point. Thanks for the tip!

    Steve,

    Yes, I completely removed the Akamai Netsession Interface, DDO, and then ran a registry cleaner as well as manually removed all instances in the registry of DDO, Eberron, or Turbine. I definitely thought the same as you, but no luck. I'd be open to any other suggestions though. Thanks for taking the time out to post and help out.

    Ok, just finished redownloading all the DAT files as well, and unfortunately no luck. I'm starting to think this will never get fixed... /sigh.

    Can anyone else think of something we may have missed? Please advise.

    Ok, so I think I finally figured it out after 2 days of working on this... apparently the game calls on a DX9 API named "xinput9_1_0.dll". Oddly enough, my system diagnostics stated that DX was fully functional as we are up to DX11 at the moment, so an old API from DX9 didn't show up on the radar. After manually adding the DLL to my System32 directory, it miraculously started working.

    I want to thank everyone who was able to provide feedback during this downtime, and I hope this discovery can/will assist future users that may experience the same type of issue I did.

    Thanks again,

    Congratulations! I am very glad to hear you found the problem. Perhaps you could add the fix to your OP so that newcomers will see the solution right there with the problem.
