Thief tool prices

Hey all,

I am disgusted with the thief tool prices in the AH, so send me a tell and I try to provide you with +5 tools as much as I can.

I can craft unbound tools from +5 weapons.
And the free agents vendor gives out btc +4 tools. They should suffice.

I think most people stockpile them now that they stack - I usually keep some on all my toons in case someone runs out...

The prices on the AH are bad - but what really offends me is the people that post 1 +5 Thieves Tools and try to charge the same as what others charge for 50!

Construction
In a Device Workstation Combine a number of Mechanical Trap Parts and a weapon with the corresponding enchantment bonus(the weapon will be consumed in the crafting process) to create a set of 50 Thieves' Tools.

The Trapmaking Feat is not required for the manufacture of Thieves Tools. However, a character without the Trapmaking Feat will need to acquire the Mechanical Trap Parts from another character.

• 10 Mechanical Trap Parts and a +1 weapon for 50 +1 Thieves' Tools
• 25 Mechanical Trap Parts and a +2 weapon for 50 +2 Thieves' Tools
• 50 Mechanical Trap Parts and a +3 weapon for 50 +3 Thieves' Tools
• 75 Mechanical Trap Parts and a +4 weapon for 50 +4 Thieves' Tools
• 100 Mechanical Trap Parts and a +5 weapon for 50 +5 Thieves' Tools

Plot twist: all the expensive tools on the AH are ones you've given out for free to some noob that's trying to make some cash.

OK So I used to put 50+5 tools on the AH for 2k buyout regularly and was happy when they sold within an hour - Did I put the next bunch up for 4k? Heck No! I kept putting them up for what they were guaranteed to sell for!

The Stacking Change happens and overnight the lowest price on the AH for 50 tools is 25k buyout!

How did that happen overnight? Other than a bunch of people buying all the low lying fruit and sticking them back up at that much higher price?


Today I picked up 50 + 4 tools from GH Slayer and was about to vendor trash them before I thought about checking the AH prices on Cannith and to my shock saw that there were four sets of tools up:

20 +5s for 25k
20 +5s for 25k
20 +5s for 25k
200 +5s for 200k

Well I stuck up those 50 +4s for 12k buyout and they sold within Half an Hour!
I didn't even expect them to sell - I figured people would still go for the +5s even at those ridiculous prices!

If +4s sell for 12k buyout within half an hour then I'm afraid that there's little to be done other than accept the new standard of pricing.

P.S. When trying to bring AH Prices down it requires a concerted effort by a number of people and PATIENCE.

If I'd put those +4s up for 1k or 2k they'd have sold just as quick and possibly to someone who wasn't a trapper but just wanted to stick them back on the AH to make themselves money.

If I'd put them up for 20k then no-one in their right mind would have bought them.

A Possible fix for the pricing of +5s is for enough of us to start putting 50 +4s up at 8-12k so that the people putting +5s up for such ridiculous prices have to bring theirs down.

Then we can bring the prices of +4s down too.

I can't imagine anyone foolish enough to pay so much for Thieves' Tools unless they have so much plat it is worthless.

I make one GH saga run, and the things are clogging my inventory.

Sadly, it's how the market fluctuated rather than a concerted effort to start gouging anyone. I thought for sure that it was some fluke when tool buyout prices skyrocketed, so made bids on non-buyout sets and even those would get bid up into 10K+ range.


All tools sell now, not just the +5s. +1s will even go 1K or so.

Free Agent rep is Rogue's & Arty's best friend these days.


Slightly off-topic quandary: I'm more curious why the prices on Collectibles went all crazy.

I can understamd the current prices for +5 tools, but that is just weird.

I guess the players who have lots of plat to spare want to acquire 1k stacks of tools for their trappers quickly, which would explain why +5 thieves' tools currently sell for a lot.

However even free to play quests offer a total 0f 177 Free Agents favor, more than necessary to unlock +4 tools at the Free Agents vendor in the harbor. Add the Three Barrel Cove quests and a player can easily have the required 150 favor by the time he is level 7.

Are there really that many players who are oblivious to the existence of both the device workstation and the Free Agents vendor?

Haven't run a Rogue with any degree of seriousness since the first year of Unlimited, and stopped paying attention to Traps and the Device Station well before that.
