    Default Chat bugged??

I haven't seen anyone else post anything about this and I'm curious as to how widespread this problem is.

What happens: A player joins a group. All things appear normal. No notices or alerts that there is any problem. Game-play is completely unaffected and experiences with in-game sound and sound effects should be completely as per-normal. But while the player can type in party chat and have it appear in his/her own window and use voice and have his/her hp bar hash-up the way it should he will not be heard by his teammates and he will hear nothing that they say. Likewise, his typed comments will not be visible to teammates, nor will he be privy to theirs. In fact, none of his typed statements in any chat will appear anywhere, but in his/her own window. And, no one else's will come through to him/her. The only form of communication available to him will be the tell.

What can be done: Nothing. Once the corruption occurs the party carries it like a retro-virus. It can affect more than one player at a time, but only impacts them when they first join, but once begun, it does not relent or recede. Even game-client and computer restarts accomplish nothing. The only way to defeat the problem is to break and reform the party.

Also, I haven't seen this occur when a group is first formed, but only when someone joins an established group that has already run something.

Honestly, it's hardly noticeable, unless your running with people you know and are used to communicating with. Almost everyone's initial reaction upon getting it is, "Is everybody ****ed off at just me or did someone else do something?'

No idea if this matters, but I play on G-land.

Quite frankly this is a minor annoyance, and fairly easily dealt with. To my knowledge no one has taken the time to submit a bug-report. Generally folks just want to get on with playing.

First seemed to crop up about a couple months ago.

Curious to see if others have had this same experience.

Default Yes, and I'm not the only one

I've been swamped at work the last few weeks, otherwise I would have posted something about this as well. Got some time now, so I was checking the forums to see if this has been brought up yet and possibly make a bug report finally on it.

Yes, I've experienced this, and I know a good many others who have as well.

    I also play on G-Land.

My experience is also that the only way to remedy this is to completely disband the party and regroup.

I've also experienced this where one or two members of the party will get isolated via this bug while the rest of the party will have their own working party chat separate from it. In the last few weeks (when I've had time to play) I've encountered it half a dozen times. With my regular friends we notice it right away. Did a PUG Raid a while ago (Temple of the Death Wyrm) and didn't notice it until 2/3rds of the way through (when the choices were red-light-green-light and gravity). That time was one of those times where 2 people were able to type and speak to each other but no one else, while everyone else could talk and type to each other but not to those two. One of those 2 affected was the party leader who had to start communicating via /tells through a liaison. Apparently he was talking and giving instructions the whole time and was just lucky that most everyone was on the same page... but gravity requires some communication to get through, which made it obvious that something was wrong. Almost everyone in the group at that time had experienced this at some point prior to this particular run and thus was very understanding, so we were able to pull through and finish.

When I first experienced this, me and my friends spent nearly an hour trying to trouble shoot it in game (we were playing at a time when there is no in-game support so we had to resolve it ourselves in order to be able to play together). Affected player drops and rejoins: persists. Affected player reboots DDO client: persists. Affected player reboots computer: persists. Part leader changes who is leader then re-invited affected player: persists. As already mentioned, the only way we've found to fix this issue is for everyone to disband and reform a brand new party from scratch. Unbelievably frustrating.

I'm now actually hoping that the potentially corrupt code that has been potentially causing the server crashes might be here in the formation of party chat rooms? I hope this because Cordovan said in another thread that G-Land has had all it's server hardware replaced and it still crashes, so they now suspect it's corrupted code somewhere. I don't want to send them on a wild goose chase as I want these problems solved as soon as possible as well (I love this game and want to be able to enjoy playing it whenever I can), but if these issues are linked? Then instead of an unknown amount of time (possibly years) trying to find that one piece of corrupted code, perhaps both issues (bugged party chat and server crashes) can be resolved simultaneously.

(yes, now I might be dreaming and stretching my hope far, but I can hope and dream can I not?)

EDIT: and I highly doubt it's an /ignore or /squelch issue (unless the game is changing peoples lists randomly), as this has happened with friends and we have been able to resolve it without changing our ignore lists (some of us never use that feature ever so our lists are empty).

Oh - so it might just be a G-Land issue. Ok - will make sure to quarantine and sanitize any characters xfering from there. :P

On a serious note: chat server and game server are two different things - so this might be related to the current G-Land issues.

On G-land also, however not sure its a server specific problem. It happened occassionally to me until I fixed it.

When you first log in check if it says something like chat server not found, or cant connect to party chat, etc. If so then its a fairly common problem, It used to have a stickied post labeled Vista chat problems before the forum search.

    Shut ddo down,
Go to the userpreference.ini file in the DDO folder in your documents, change the UserSpecifiedPort=0 To UserSpecifiedPort=9000
save the file and reload up DDO.

While the problem it self is a pain, it is fairly easy to deal with; however, my main concern, like yours apparently, is that this could be symptomatic of a larger issue.

That might make sense if people weren't responding to tells and breaking and reforming groups to resolve the issue. I think that you should have read the OP a bit more carefully.

No real notifications like this occurring. That's a fairly easy one to find as notice regarding the chat server non-connect appears on screen and also in the chat windows. This is different and appears to somehow be transmitted via the party.

    Hello,

This happened to my friend, where we were in a party together (3 people). At first we were all communicating fine, and then suddenly he couldn't see our messages, but we could see his. This went on for an extended period of time until it randomly fixed itself. When it happened, no one had joined the party nor had anything that I could remember changed. We were all just waiting outside the Waterworks.

This was very irritating to him especially, because it so happened that we were talking about what to buy in the store, and it cut me off right as I was talking about one adventure pack that I didn't want him to buy. He got the impression he should just get it when I went silent. Waste of points.

Anyway, happened on Thelanis, if it matters. I'm not sure if this is the same issue you guys are having.

Happens semi regularly for us in guild...

In some cases Party chat is unresponsive... ( disband/reform usualy fix it )
In other cases it's the Guild Chat that goes unresponsive... We don't relly have any solution for that one... We have a workaround : using another chat channel ( /ucx ).
sometime it hits the whole guild at other time it just hits a few members. ( if it's a few members usually it gets cleared if they log another toon )

    Obviously : G-Land.
Maybe it was tied to the server crash issue...
On G-Land : Flavilandile, Blacklock, Yaelle, Millishande, Larilandile, Gildalinde, Tenalafel, and many other...
