Default Infinite Crisis - Closing 8/15

    https://www.infinitecrisis.com/en/ne...gust-14th-2015

Should give some insight as to the health of DDO. These companies have no problems pulling the plug when they have to.

Still, a sad day for those who did work for IC [including some ex DDO Devs].

    Question

I wonder what happened? It only came out of beta in March. Didn't even last 90 days?

    Weird.

    Weird.
Poking around on their forums, shows its most a lack of players. Not like if you can't find someone to play with you can solo in MOBA! As I mentioned in the other thread, Turbine made a big push of this game through steam and steam was only showing a few hundred players. That's not profitable, especially for a game that just game out and had things in development.

Now the question is, what happens to the staff? Do some of them go back to working for DDO and LOTRO or do they move onto other Turbine projects.

    Interesting days ahead.

I didn't grab the link, but some googling turned up a second quote from one of the IC staff indicating that the MOBA market matured as they were developing and once it was released they just couldn't find enough of an audience for IC.

EDIT: Went back and grabbed the link: http://massivelyop.com/2015/06/02/in...n-august-14th/

Isn't this also the day that Heroes of the Storm comes out from Blizzard? Funny coincidence that. I've read somewhere that LotRO actually still brings in pretty good money, but will it be enough to keep Turbine afloat? Also, do you think axing Infinite Crisis was an in-house decision or was it made from above by the good folks at Time Warner?

If you did want to try it now would be the time, as it is free to play between now and Aug 14th.

    Can't say I'm shocked.
The MOBA market is over-saturated, and IC was never a real standout. It was a very transparent attempt to catch LOL's coattails. The reviews were mixed, at best. I saw the game played at PAX a few years back, and none of the other attendees I talked to about it seemed really excited by it. And a lot of the press I read about the game was to berate it's character design.

DDO has always been a sleeper-hit for Turbine. They pretty much invented the F2P model that MMOs are following now. Be nice if they gave it more resources, instead of chasing the latest fad in a sup par manner.

Wow. I had a feeling things were going poorly for the game, based on some rumor that I've read, but had no idea it was this bad. So glad I didn't download it when I was offered a FREE copy from my graphics card manufacturer. Being offered a free game kind of hints toward the writing on the wall.

Feel sorry for all the employees who have lost their jobs already, and are going to lose their jobs, over this game. Hopefully everyone lands on their feet quickly.

I'm not sure what a sub par MOBA failing after 3 months (beta doesn't count) had to do with with a decently successful 8 year old MMO that popularized the F2P Model.

Anyways heres hoping DDO can have the devs that game stole from us back.

    It is official.
Infinity Crisis has more activity on DDOs forums than it had in game.

They should have launched as a DDO forum word game.
Like the "shut down the guy above you" game.
Steve_Howe you are shut down for expecting people to pay attention!
    They'd of had more people.
BONGO FURY - Ghallanda - Thingfish - Wizard, Diuni - Ninja, Gheale - Angel, Dullknife - Tank, Noodlefish - Gimp, Jaquaby - Treacherous and other gimps.

People are always barking on the forums that WB/Turbine is about to pull the plug on DDO. Well, IC is an example of a really dead game. If you compare the two, it makes DDO look healthy, despite its age and slow bleeding of players. Needless to say, I don't see the same thing happening to DDO in the near term.

And perhaps with that game no longer bleeding resources off DDO and LOTRO, you could see both games get a bit of a boost in the short term, while they shift people into production on other games.

Reminds me very much of what happens in The Producers.
Which is an excellent movie, btw. But, see the original '68 version, not the Broderick/Lane rehash.
