    Default Reincarnation Questions

    This week, I reached the level cap for the first time with two characters. The DDO Wiki describes reincarnation in great detail, but I find myself with lingering questions and so come here for help.

    As I approached the level cap, one of my great concerns was accumulating enough Commendations of Valor for an Epic Heart of Wood. My thief arrived at the level cap with 1014 Commendations of Valor, my wizard with 1150. However, after two days at the level cap, my thief already had 42 Heart Seeds. After one day at the level cap, my wizard had 20. Collecting enough Commendations of Valor was a complete non-issue. If I use 42 Heart Seeds for an Epic Heart of Wood and then reincarnate to L20, do I keep the rest of my Commendations of Valor and Heart Seeds? My friends want to stay at the level cap for a while, and so I wish to know if it makes sense stockpiling Commendations of Valor and Heart Seeds for future use.

    When leveling from 20 to 28 on my thief, I navigated through Epic Destinies with the goal of increasing self healing. My path was 4 Shadowdancer, 5 Legendary Dreadnaught (finishing it off), 3 Shiradi Champion, 2 Primal Avatar, and finally 5 Grandmaster of Flowers. That left me with about 5 million karma in the Martial Sphere, so while accumulating Heart Seeds I finished Shadowdancer and stayed there until reaching 6 million karma. I then moved into the Divine Sphere and started working on Unyielding Sentinel. When I finally get around to performing an Epic Reincarnation and use up 6 million Martial Karma, will my accumulated Divine Karma and Primal Karma remain intact? If I immediately followed an Epic Reincarnation with a Heroic Reincarnation, would my accumulated Divine Karma and Primal Karma still remain intact? Does a Heroic Reincarnation wipe out all my progress in Epic Destinies? Once I unlock a given Epic Destiny, does it remain unlocked forever, regardless of reincarnation activity and karma usage? I have read things in these forums that contradict the DDO Wiki, thus my uncertainty.

    According to the DDO Wiki, Epic Reincarnations do not reset Favor. Does Epic Reincarnation reset things like the Monster Manuals, first time quest completion experience awards, and Wilderness Area deed progress? Does an Epic Reincarnation earn a character 'wings'. Will I be forced to remake the appearance of my character during Epic Reincarnation? ( I absolutely _hated_ that last aspect when performing my first Heroic Reincarnation on a different character two weeks ago. I do not want to lose the appearance of a character _ever_. Fortunately, I am obsessive about such things and, two years ago when I created her, wrote down all her attributes in my journal. I am still upset she lost her hair style. )

    Thank you for the help!

    Congrats! Big step! Just remember that after you feed the floating ball its required wood - close the game completely - then and only then - finish the reincarnation through the character select screen.

    Heart Seeds are BtA and used for hearts of wood, exclusively. they stack nice and high so stock pile away! VComm's are useful for other things - just double click on them (while in your backpack) and you will see a nice list.

    Since you trade in only hearts of wood (eWood, iWood, or hWood) to reincarnate - you only use the respective heart of wood during the process (so you keep all vcomms and heart seeds (and frags) except those you used to trade for the wood). How do you trade? Double click on the heart seeds or vComms - and an interface will pop up. Easy Peasy!

    Progress in ED's last through ALL reincarnations (eR, hR (aka TR), iR). You keep all favor and completions and ransack and sagas when you ER. When you ER you consume 6 million karma from one sphere, and gain one epic past life feat of your choosing from that sphere. Each past life will stack up to three times.

    IR will take a capped character and reincarnate back to level 1 or level 15 if coming back as an iconic (or level 0 if you get struck back as an eardweller larvae ). Grants one iconic past life feat (stacks to 3). consumes zer0 karma.

    ER will take you back from cap to 20, keeping all completions, timers, ransack, and sagas, monster manuals, first time bonuses, and s/r/e wilderness accomplishments. You get to relevel you character from level 1 (like a lesser reincarnation) and choose skills points, feats, spells etc but not change races, alignments, sexes, or class levels. You will have to choose what you look like (or let it be random). For this reason I take a screenshot of the settings as I am creating (or reincarnating) a character AND a screenshot of what the character looks like (and hot bars. etc).

    HR (aka TR) will take you back to level 1 (or 15 if you so desire to come back as an iconic) and grant a class past life feat (stacks up to three times). Consumes zer0 karma. Doesn't change / wipe ED's. Does clean the slate for favor, character monster manual stats / rewards, completions, timers, ransack, flagging, sagas, etc. Heroic Reincarnation (aka TR) is basically creating a brand new character with only select, limited items carrying through (like tomes, gear cache, and past lives).

    As far as I know - ERing does not grant horns, wings, or other insect parts ;p (still considered what it was). One Twist of Fate point is granted after 4 Epic Reincarnations.

    All reincarnations will wipe out store purchased hair styles and colorings. Bummer I know, but did you really want a purple mo-hawk for the rest of your characters lives? :P

    Tips:

    if you like how your hotbars are placed: "/ui layout save xxx" and after you reincarnate and are on the inbetween plane "/ui layout load xxx"

    remember to export your friends list Before you reincarnate, and import after. (it will remember your friends list - but NOT the comments.

    Thank you, UurlockYgmeov, for the very helpful and detailed response. You answered all my questions and provided quite a few useful tips. I did not know I could click on Commendations of Valor and Heart Seeds, save my User Interface, or export my Friends List. Taking screenshots of characters during creation and before reincarnation is also an excellent suggestion. Perhaps most important of all, I did not know Epic Reincarnation would allow me to relevel my character and correct her woefully poor feat choices. I bookmarked your response for future use. As for pink mohawks, my character had wonderful, long, auburn hair but she must wear a ponytail for now.

    You are welcome.

    As for screenshots, I have been quite OCD and have literally taken screen shots of every reincarnation... screenshots include (but not limited to)
    • Appearance (creation screen and full body)
    • Beginning Stats (from creation)
    • Enhancements (so can recreate and post)
    • Full screen layout
    • Hotbars (top and bottom)
    • Inventory main page
    • Character Sheet
      • AC breakdown tooltip
      • Attack speed tooltip
      • HAmp (Healing Amplification) tooltip
      • Spell Power tooltip
      • Weapon Power tooltip

    • any noteable spell DCs (if spell caster - so like disco ball for bard)
    • Crafting experience / levels
    • Epic Destinies
      • Active
      • Any that have changed since last reincarnation
      • Map - showing karma and progress

    • Renown tooltip
    • Skills - usually all takes three screenshots with a snipper program
    • Spells (for each class - overview)
    • Twists of Fate
      • beginning fate points
      • up to two shots showing all four slotted twists of fate

    • If used any tomes screen shot of the chat window proving / showing what was done.

    I know - OCD - but it came in handy once. The reason for telling you to close your client completely after feeding the Archon its wood might just be superstition, like a sailor knocking on wood, but it is to prevent the lose of epic destiny advancement, karma, tomes, and what not. Has only happened to me once (in over 70 reincarnations, and the support team was VERY helpful in resolving that) - but better safe than sorry.

    Yes, but that ponytail is probably IMHO much better looking than a mohawk! :P Check the AH - might get lucky and find the hair style / color you are looking for (think style is bound but color usually isn't bound).

    Happy Reincarnating! Don't come back as an eardweller larvae!

    One of my pet peeves with the DDO game is that so much information is only available via third parties such as the ddowiki. I don't expect DDO to provide any kind of spoilers for dungeon runs like you can find on the wiki. I do expect them to provide the basic information required to allow a player to make a well informed choice about how to use features such as Epic Destinies, Twists of Fate, and Reincarnation on their site, and kept updated.

    When I recently hit L20 I had to scrounge around for information on Epic Destinies. I was a VIP player, why couldn't I select an Epic Destiny? The best information I could find on the DDO site was buried in the sales information for the expansion packs. And it was vague and clearly out of date, since it referred to the level cap as being 25. And since it included obviously out of date information I had to suspect that any of the other information it gave might be also either incorrect or out of date.
    I had to submit a ticket to get the information I needed to make an informed choice, and that necessity probably wastes far more DDO employee time if repeated over and over across the player base than simply making the information available on their site and then maintaining it.

    And then I had to post on these forums to figure out the confusing mish-mash of information concerning Epic Destinies and Twists of Fate. Again, this information should be provided by DDO in a clear and unambiguous manner. On their site, and not relying upon some third party to provide it for them and keep it updated. For me, the information on ddowiki was not enough to clear up how EDs and Twists inter-operated. A set of FAQ Q&As would probably handle the issue nicely for most people.

    Ok, rant over.

    Never throw away nothin' Ok, there are a few exceptions, like useless dungeon quest items which don't auto-drop when you exit. But it's a good general rule.

    I'm right there with you! I now keep a file on all my characters, with entries that look like this:
    5,3/6,7,6,2/5.5,2,6,1,6/3.5,2.5/3

    If you look at this while looking at the character appearance screen, you'll see how it will let you get as close as possible to your old appearance. Unfortunately for me, I didn't do this until after I had played my main for quite a while. So I will need to try to capture her appearance before I reincarnate.

    Does this (specifically saga status retention) also apply to HRs? And if so, will you retain access to places like GH so you might complete the saga there, HR, and then use the saga EXP reward as a very nice leg up in your leveling?

    As in:
    1) Finish GH saga;
    2) HR;
    3) Go to airship, ask navigator to send you to GH even though you are L1;
    4) Turn in saga for 46k EXP (plus any bonuses for EXP potions or Voice of the Master, etc.);
    5) Profit!

    This is quite handy, thanks!
    Most of the Reincarnation information IS available in game - just speak to the Reincarnation Archon in the Reincarnation Grove in the Hall of Heroes. Yes, it is seemingly a difficult place to find both the NPC and the information - but at least it is there.

    I agree with the sentiment concerning lack of official information; with that said there is the original postings in these forums concerning how to and what happens. With that said it would be nice if the 'DDO for Dummies : Basic Information and FAQ's' was updated by Turbine; WITH THAT SAID - I rather they spend their limited resources on improving and adding and updating the game rather than on this. A Player based initiative (reviewed by staff) and posted on the forums in sticky form would be appropriate.

    Concerning HR(aka TR):

    I forgot to include sagas (although in my defence it is implied by stating favor and completions etc) in the list of what is wiped clean. Saving Saga's to use after a HR (TR) is unwise and not suggested because they simply won't be there to collect. In simple terms (as a Dev once said) - HR is like creating a brand new character, except with some things carrying forward (past lives, gear cache, and tomes) and is the ultimate way to cure a bad hair day.

    As far as your experience with ED's - Maybe post it in these forums and ask that it be made a sticky (after suitable peer review and suggestions)?

    and you are most certainly welcome, just pay it forward and have fun storming the castles in your new lives!

    Ah, in game. Well that's nice. But no NPC directed me to this other NPC in order that I might learn this information. I will still maintain that this information needs to be made available on the DDO site, and maintained in a current state by DDO personnel. Relying upon third-party sources, or hoping that players stumble across the in-game resource is not an adequate solution. A compromise solution might be that the information is available in-game, but is references very clearly.

    Is it only me that thinks that this game has too steep of a learning curve, and that the DDO staff could very easily flatten this curve by providing non-spoiler information to their player base? I've read many posts of these forums which claim that DDO is a dying game, citing an ever dwindling player base count as their justification for that claim. Perhaps a game that didn't hide information from the player base might not drive away players who were frustrated by this status quo. And providing this information would be a very simple matter.

    I appreciate the sentiment, and all the info you've handed out. But I would not feel in any way qualified to do what you have suggested with regards to making a sticky thread.

    My friends went on vacation so I decided to sneak in my first two Epic Reincarnations. My very first character was created back in 2010, right after DDO went Free to Play, and I did not record her appearance settings. It took a second account, perhaps two hours, and a half dozen characters to rediscover those values. After that I took many screen shots, followed your instructions, and everything went well. The whole process took perhaps 4 hours on the first character and two hours on the second. I was able to quickly rebuild their skill bars referencing the screen shots, but I forgot to take a picture of my wizard's memorized spells, so selecting those took a while. My biggest mistake was not preparing a full set of L20 equipment for each character in advance, but the Auction House remedied that problem.

    The second time through with better feats, Twists of Fate, slightly better stats, and a decent Epic Destiny definitely makes for smoother game play.

    glad it went well. It gets easier the more you do it. there are a couple of reincarnation checklists around - don't have a link though.

    keep on having fun!
