"Denn Die Toten Reiten Schnell"
"For The Dead Travel Fast"
1st ed AD&D followed by the white box but I dont play pnp d&d any more I play the superiour game 5th hackmaster.
Beware the Sleepeater
- 1st ed. AD&D: clunky; also, who needs a gazillion pole arms?
- 2nd ed. AD&D: pretty much the same as 1st, main differences being higher nonhuman max levels and NWPs being included in the core rules; however 2nd ed. had my favorite campaign settings besides Greyhawk, namely Planescape and Al-Qadim (which may technically be part of FR, but if you don't play it on its own you deprive yourself of that awesome arabian nights feel)
- 3E: yay! rules finally make sense - high roll good, low roll bad. No more arbitrary restrictions on race/class combinations, either
- 3.5: streamlined 3E, and my favorite edition rules wise
- 4E: train wreck
- 5E: not as bad as 4E, but by far not as good as 3E/3.5 either
We own all the books up to 3, and a friend bought me 2 of the 3.5 that are only gathering dust.

Your Dice really do hate you.
1st ed: hehheh. EGG did love him some pole-arms, didn't he?
My vote was 2nd ed, though. Just had too many years playing that edition, and never had a chance to play PnP under 3.5.
Complete Humanoids, ftw. My roleplay rarely ever took me towards the big shiny "Hey look at me!" kind of characters. I much preferred the "I am not the character you are looking for" / "We don't serve your kind in here" ones.![]()
3.5. I might have said 5th if I ran it enough to make a campaign setting. However 5th hasn't been out long enough, so I can't say. I do like the exp based on GM's wishes though. However 3.5 allowed a lot of customization and control.
