Indeed, and this is something I hate about most MMOs, or even most gaming componies period. They rarely ever give an explanation. I mean heck, remember years ago when every game patch no matter how small also had Patch Notes? Even that is rarely seen anymore. But it's usually worse actually during the matenance. They will usually give NO infomation at all, not even another estimated timer. Even after it's all done, they will be 'It's fixed!' and never speak of it again.

you do realize that a 5 hour period of time isn't even 1% of a month right?

I do. Percentage wise, the downtime per dollar was low.

But, the only time these outages really matter is when the customers ask to be compensated for them, and then it does figure into their balance sheet. Asking for reimbursement (or, some otherwise comparable perk) is the only way to get leadership's attention that the extended downtime is hurting the books...

Dead you have almost been around as long as I have. You know Turbine has NEVER guessed one of these types of changes/updates correctly in the past. It has always been over-promise and under-deliver.

Remember the forum changeover?
Remember the other times they have updated billing and having your credit card charged 100 times or whatever people were saying was happening to them.

I've been around since just after EU servers were turned on, but didn't have any interest in forums, Codemaster or otherwise

I'm not criticising our devs on this one, like you said, this isn't really a DDO issue, it's just that DDO is being impacted by it. So someone somewhere has dropped the ball on it.

In my line of work we have a Prince2 document called a "Lessons Learned Log" that's reviewed at the start of a project. It gets updated whenever there's a lesson to be passed onto the next project team. Guess what it should already have had in it based on past experience?

Devs must be able to work their maintenance in better. Smaller patches, more frequently from 3am-7am, something like that. Also, whoever predicts the amount of downtime needs to be fired. Always hours off, c'mon man, at least use the old under-commit over-deliver trick. You know if you think it is going to take 3hrs tell us 9 so when we check and it is finally up after 7 hrs, we can say, "man, good job." Also people wouldn't start posting and complaining if they weren't told a time and 3hrs + later, they are still trying to play.

They choose not to do a 3am-7am one becasue on the other side of the world, where people do play, it would be playing time.

Give all the money to that guy on the forum who clearly knows what he is talking about as he will sort it for us. Then we will log in to a world where level cap is 10 and a paralyser was fictional and will take us two years to find a way to beat down the titan (or at least a way to stop the muppet breaking the pillars at the wrong time) and Velah was the only dragon in game and we went wow every time we saw her.
..... and wf were banned from our Guild and we never followed Hag .... and greasing people in midfight got every one laughing rather than getting booted after a quest

words cannot describe the ire, rage and inchoate fury that I am feeling right now. I pay for a service and spend half my time unable to use that service. if this was a new car, I would return it to the garage. if it was a horse or dog, I would blow its brains out. as I have invested A SMALL FORTUNE in my characters, DDO have me over a barrel and continually take a liberty. when will this ever end????
