Default The Training Room (for DPS testing)

Yesterday I was on my airship testing attack speeds on a training dummy, which was fine for what I was doing, but attack speed is just about all the Training Dummy is good for testing, so an idea occurred to me, what if I could set the conditions for my testing?

DDO's major edge that it has over other MMOs is its superb character customisation, this aspect of the game is what separates it from other MMORPGs and makes it a joy to play and even when re-playing content you've done a hundred times.

What I am proposing is simple, an in-game facility that lets you go above and beyond in character customisation.
What I want is a proper training room that lets you set the conditions to exact speccifications with some limitations.

The Training facility would be located either in House Cannith as a purchasable feature or as an amenity available for purchase via astral shards for a guild airship.
The facility would allow a player to select a monster from their monster manual, this means it is limited to things available in the current Monster Manuals. Then they would be able to set the conditions for the test; Monster CR, Hitpoints, name colour (red, orange or yellow) damage output and aggressiveness (whether or not the test subject attacks or stands passively like the kobolds in the dojo on Lammannia).

The purpose of such a facility would be to allow players to do reliable testing on certain aspects of the game and work out the best ways of dealing with certain obstacles. It would also allow players to thoroughly test DPS and gear set-ups.

The facility would have a banker, a tavern, an auction house, a mailbox, a vendor (of varying kinds; scroll, potions, components etc.) and a spirit binder.

I can't think of what else this would need but I know that a large amount of the end-game community and in fact the community at large would appreciate the chance to be able to reliably test their gear and abilities.

We had a discussion along these lines back in 2011... still a great idea.

    UDR Loot Rules:
    1) No griefing people for pulling loot that dropped in their name
    2) When rolling, classes for which the item is "useful" get +10 to the roll
example: Wiz and Barb both roll on a Torc, the barb saying "I'm TRing into an arcane next week"
Wiz gets +10 on his roll

a training dummy that you could set as any or at least some of the monsters in the game covering a good variety of them with strengths and weaknesses would be incredibly popular and a must have shiny for any min/max player. this is a very easy way for Turbine to make a profit if they could make it work. i suspect this would be a big project for them to do, especially if they did more than just a training dummy. if they can make it work and work properly they should do it.

You are the one choosing not to play alts.

Casual player now investing way less than I used to into the game, playing 1-3 months at a time and still want nothing to do with Reaper. #improvepuggrouping#alldifficultiesmatter

Turbine has some kind of developer command for spawning arbitrary monsters, as shown in various "just messing around" segments of official preview webcasts, where the dev doing the preview spawns things in the Test Dojo on Lammania. It would be a relatively simple thing to make that same tool available to players inside a special training instance.

An X men danger room would be great.
Sometimes I pull one out just to watch it die over and over. That's how much I hate hires.

This is a good idea too actually and would give further value to owning the Monster Manuals!

Yeah, we need to be able to cast spells and use abilities that don't work in public areas.

Like this idea, but I can see the public area as being a problem, maybe it is possible to have this set up in a special quest?

It could be part of a pack I guess?

Setting it up as a quest like zone could work quite well. Players could then use a control board to set CR, Monster type, Monster Aggression, Mob density/number and name color all while inside the quest, and then use a switch to confirm their settings and activate the training session. Allowing control of the dungeon alert settings for the training session would also be optimal.

Having a vendor that sells "Training modules" allowing players to place their training module into the system, set up their session and then save it to the module for later use thus allowing players to test multiple character set-ups under the same conditions.

The issue is to be used properly you need to be able to create a private instance, though yes, putting this facility in the Hall of Heroes is a great idea, would give people more of a reason to go there.
