    Default DDO 10th Anniversary Celebration

DDO's 10th Anniversary is on February 28th, 2016 (the official launch was February 28th, 2006) and will be a pivotal moment in the game's history. The anniversary is about 10 months away but I am hoping that whatever is involved in the celebration will be quite memorable, so we should get more than just Crystal Cove or a Mimic Hunt event.

LOTRO is giving out cosmetic gifts and other goodies to VIP and Premium players for its 8th anniversary, based on the tenure of their accounts.

    http://massivelyop.net/2015/04/12/lo...ersary-awards/

My suggestion is to introduce Player Housing for DDO's 10th Anniversary. Active Premium and VIP accounts that were created at beta could receive an entire house from among the choices, while other Premium and VIP accounts could receive lesser rewards like housing decorations and possibly other vanity items. A housing system is mostly cosmetic in nature other than its potential storage aspect and anniversary events in MMOs usually revolve around this kind of bling for its community.

Player Housing wouldn't be a small undertaking like cosmetic hats or pets but the 10th anniversary event will happen only once and (even though I hope otherwise) we may not see a 20th anniversary event for DDO. If Player Housing is cost prohibitive in terms of dev time, what else could DDO offer for its 10th Anniversary gala?

    Forget adding stuff!

How about fixing the basic and bring this game back to some glory... hey maybe even a little advertisement..
I can set you guys up with my people, It's really cheap if your promoting a game the rest of your company hasnt forgot about.

But yea, No player housing. I see that making things worse as far as stability.
    And this game isnt WoW.
ALOT of the stuff I see you guys suggest is just gangked from WoW

WAIT WAIT WAIT maybe turbine can take..

LoTR, DDO, That batman game and what ever else they produce and take the main toons from each game and put them in a Click and Blast play style...

We can call it.. Tactical Turbine Team Play TTTP For short.

OR we can put all our favorite mobs and toons on cards...
We can call it...... THE KEY TO EVENINGSTAR!

Get it... cause the key to eveningstar is kinda like a hearth.....
You dont get it, its cool.

And EVERY anniversary only happens once.. Kinda the whole thing with numbers, They go in sequence and keep going.

Unless your get divorced alot then you can have alot of 1ST's!

DDO has started advertising again...on Facebook. I have seen sponsored ads for the Wil Wheaton TOEE trailer every time I have logged into my Facebook account.

Kinda... Thats a ad service. Its the lowest of the low ways to advertise something..

If you lets say spent all your time looking at kitchen appliances it would have a Home Depot add there.

So the ONLY people that are seeing this are people that are looking at DDO already or Dungeons and Dragons/MMO.

So really its very very very very very limited. I would not consider it productive advertising by any means.

TBH... its something like .. " HERE'S $500 FOR YOU GAMES ENTIRE ADVERTISING BUDGET "
Google add's even mails coupons to companies for this service.

It's 1XXXXXXX Many people will see this advertisement but what they dont tell you is that they are advertising to people who already searched that same or a very similiar product.
It's not the kind of advertising where lets say they have specific demographics they are trying to reach.. Cause that kind of advertisments cost alot of money.

Actually if you want magazine spreads - tv adverts - radio spots - billboards; well those are NOT the way to reach the target demographics.

The Target Demographics for DDO use Facebook and play online games. Most have pale skin from lack of exposure to sun and no clue about the opposite sex (aka Sheldon). (OK Kobold poke fun at gamers!!)

So Facebook is a great way to push the message. 1.393 BILLION monthly users.

As far as what I want for 10th? a 20th.

A lot of your target demographic (being PnP players), pre-existed Facebook and many aren't extensive users of social media.
I think you need to be realistic - the average mobile app gamer is not going to like DDO. The learning curve is steep, complex and it can't be played during your 15 min tea break.
It strengths are its weaknesses. We love the complexity and infinite possibilities - for most mass media consumers, this is a barrier to entry.

I agree that tv and radio aren't going to be an effective use of finite resources, but select advertising (targetted) at conventions (GenCon etc.), gaming stores, gaming websites etc would be better than the Facebook feed.
I think they need to fix a lot of stuff before trying to bring customers back or new customers.
The play experience at present could be disappointing if you don't have a good reason to stick around.

How about a dice cup with 2-D/10s in it (D&D 10 ) where we have 10 days and 10 rolls for random prizes (no card crunching). Including plus 7 tomes for both skills and stats. As for housing , they could do small airships not guild affiliated...no buffs just a housing/inventory unit. I could see selling an airship with an adventure pack. The Navigator will only go where the players have already gone in their immediate lives.

This is an interesting idea. Dice instead of cards, with nothing to dupe (presumably). A live event would be more memorable and add a new quest or raid to the game.

I would like a gnome playable race (which I've wanted for the past 10 years). Add Kalashtar, Shifter, WF Scout to the mix as well.

I would like familiars for Wizards/Sorcerers, along with the ability to brew potions.

I would like animal companions for Rangers.

I would like a more refined, i.e. better, crafting system.

Seeing how ALL of my "would likes" should have been added within the 10 years since DDO was developed, I hope that happens.

you do realize that turbines game Asherons Call came out with player housing at the end of the 90's before WOW was even an idea right? or that the OG modern MMORPG Ultima Online had it also.
before you say something is ganked from someone else you should do your homework then you would know that most of it was "ganked" from ultima or turbine

    10th anniversary should:

-Be an ingame, time-limited, event which players of all levels can take part in.
-Not be a tweaked rerun of another event.
-Be of similar scale and impact to the marketplace devil assault.
-Change the world of DDO irrevocably in some way.

Player Housing is not it, I'm sorry. Player housing in this game is guild ships. Its not the best, but its a lot better than we had before which is nothing.

Mimic Hunt is also not really it. Not unless at the end of the event the marketplace is going to be replaced with a permanent giant mimic spawning ground or something, anyway.

    Things that might be it:

The Lord of Blades deciding to march on Stormreach, cue random battles all over the place, think Mabar/Cove in terms of how spawns might work.

The Hags deciding to finish off their Droam plotline finally and march on Stormreach... yes this is the same idea as lord of blades but with different enemies

Massive storms and energies lash Stormreach, creating random magical effects that can follow you into dungeons (buffs and debuffs). a quest or quests are introduced which enable the players to investigate this further, discovering that this is a sign from the DraconicProphecy that Something Huge is going to happen, but to also grind out an item that can block out the negative effects (and once the event is over it will do something else cool - possibly it becomes a clickie 1/rest which can be used to grant a 20min buff selected from the random effects). At the end of the event, Something Huge happens (Gods forgive me, but the thing that would make most sense after a draconic prophecy event would be the arrival of the Dragonborn as a new player race - but at least they'd be making a proper entrance).

The land upon which the Tower Twelve sits finally collapses into the lava pit, causing the frenzied emergence of lava elementals and other fire creatures (whilst the tower safeties kick in causing it to hover quite safely in mid air, natch). Players can battle these mobs for drops and collectibles during the event to craft nice swag. Drops and collectibles will also be granted for rescuing trapped Twelve mages. After the event, this becomes a new end game raid or a new, raid-sized 'challenge'. The Tower of the Twleve is forever suspended in mid air, only reachable by normal means if you jumping off the Vale bridge with featherfall...

Some interesting ideas there and I would love to see some Stormreach questing arcs being continued, there is still so much potential in Eberron!
    * We have collectable bags, mind you, even hireling folders, but can I have that 6-pack for my potions please?
    * Having already a past life on the dieng EU servers, I rerolled here and started from scratch as I like the game and the community, so lets see what awaits me here

I'd actually quite like to see player housing implemented, especially if it meant MOAR STORAGE FOR SHINIES!
Player housing across most MMO's usually brings in a fair amount of money. The best way to implement this would be to make the costing similar to guild airships, some platinum and some astral shard options with the AS options always just a little bit better. Also if the homes have a function then they would be quite popular, a gate between Forgotten Realms and Ebberron, a Stormreach Teleporter, a private home bank etc... all these things could be sold in the DDO store as well as being very rare drops in chests and lesser versions purchasable for platinum.

Airship captains could drop you off at your house as well as having an entry portal at the Hall of Heroes, Real estate in each of the Enclaves, certain special areas and in Estar would also make sense. A seaside shack on an Island on the Thunder Sea for example? Again The nicer spots could be for real money with lesser places available for platinum.

As I understand it, LOTRO has themed housing based on races like elves and dwarves so something similar could be introduced to DDO. DDO also has multiple worlds, so housing could be based on Eberron themes (such as Xoriat, ) and class themes like the monk's dojo.

    o.O

sorry. I think player housing is long overdue in DDO, but I dont think something like that is an appropriate "10th anniversary gift". That doesnt make any sense at all.

I just hope, no matter what it is, that it isnt based on Randomness and dumb luck like this years... What a waste.
