Default So..... What's the game like now??

Been away for 3-4 years... Was thinking of checking it out a bit., so I logged in the other day. I notice all the feats/AP/ etc are different, had to totally redo the couple of toons I logged into. Probably totally gimped them, but who cares, lol. Nothing new for me..Any cool newer quests to mess around soloing til I get my twitch skills back?

Well, there is that, but I mean in general... Been 4 years since I played so I'm looking for newer mid lvl soloable content to mess around with and get my skills back..I play pretty much every class, and I used to not suck at any of them... right now I'd be a horrible pugger.. lol

It's never been easier to solo - on every class.

Paladins are impossible to kill. Bards are actually good. Druids are fun. Barbs can self-heal. Clerics only seem to self-heal (but are much better at melee). Sticks are fun to use. Sword and board isn't terrible. Noone cares about khopeshes now. Three barrel cove is more fun now.

There is a ton of content at levels 14-19 now with all the Eveningstar stuff.

Epic destinies are a lot of fun. In fact, the epic game has a nice amount of content if you have never seen it before.

    first welcome back!

2nd - many players leave (and always come back).

Read the release notes and ddowiki.com.

3rd - don't stress it - keep your existing character and just create another and play from level one. enjoy the game while you (re)learn it. As far as your Wiz/Fighter - you should have a lesser reincarnation wood in its backpack - just keep it and when you are ready - *poof*

Have fun storming the castle! Might see you around Khyber!

Epic stuff was still fairly new when I left. I did Epic DQ Epic Dragon, Epic Chrono, Cant remember if Abbot was Epic or not then...but that's about it, I think those were the only epic quests when I left....Lvl 20 was the cap,

I've got all kinds of crazy stuff in my backpacks, +20 hearts of wood and others.. I TRed my cleric into a druid and I'm lvl 5 right now.. Just putzing around in lower stuff til I feel like I can contribute again in group settings.... plus I'll have to buy a mic again, if I decide to really play and start grouping a bit.

Yeah those are all "old epics" now. All the new epics is everything over level 20 so all the Eveningstar stuff and they epified Gianthold, 3-barrel Cove, and the Orchards. There are about 6 new epic raids now as well.

The nice thing about the new epics is they discarded that Rube Goldberg mechanic of shard/seal/scroll and all you need now is the item (although a few chains have upgrades you can perform on them).

Also guild augments are no longer but the new augment system is much more versatile and scales better to epic levels.

If you haven't been on in 4 years, Eveningstar alone will make this seem like a brand new game. They did a fantastic job with graphics in some of the content - Underdark, Stormhorns, King's Forest. Just beautiful graphics that I think are better than the Vale of Twilight.

The art work in much of the newer content is awesome. The new builds can be fun. The updates have each added new goodies. There are many choices to be made, if you like to run fast, there is a guild for that, if you want to just take it slow and enjoy running as a group, there are guilds for that. I think overall the game has become better. I for one am really looking forward to the Temple of Elemental Evil. It has the look and feel of a dungeon crawl.

Well, I was in Elite Raiders back in the day, but now I'd be a casual player with a penchant for efficiency and getting the job done at all costs...

Many guilds will take you - shop around and find one that fits you.

BTW - if there is a Raider's reward box - DON'T open it until you are absolutely sure you know what you want - and don't take commendations of heroism.

Welcome Back!! If you do need a guild, talk to me or Rhyes, I am usually on Saalutaball and if you have someone around 15-16ish would be glad to run with you to help you get back in the swing of things.

Thanks Saal , good to see some of the old folks I used to run with still around.Gotta do a computer upgrade or 3 if I decide to really get back into it, but I'm sure I'll see you around sooner or later. I just realized that my druid is the only thing even close to a healer I have, and he's only lvl 5... Maybe I'll buy one of those already lvl 15 purple dragon clerics if they're any good, just so I have a decent healer on staff..

Another little tidbit I need to know is, are there any MUST HAVE spells or items for any/all classes...of course I know nothing of what's needed or preferred in most quests any more. Even after giving away like 20 million Plat and tons of items and whatnot, I still have like 10-15mil to buy what I can...

Remember back in the old days when the ideal party was a healbot and a crowd controler with 4 barbarian max dps builds?

It just like that, except you don't need crowd control or a healbot.

Sounds like they finally gave the masses the easy button... if it's that bad I may not end up sticking around.. hopefully there's still some skill needed in the game.

Another thing.. I have +20 hearts of wood on just about every character... does that mean I can switch straight from a lvl 20 of one class to being a lvl 20 of another? If so, I may turn one of my tools into a cleric.

    Welcome back.

Take it with a grain of salt. People who have played non-stop for many years do tend to think of how easy the game is for them. For many new and returning players - not so much. Gear and Epic Destinies are really powerful at 20+. Sub 20, is all quest knowledge and gear, with many vets simply racing a Bravery Bonus streak to get to 20.

I would relax, enjoy the game at a pace you enjoy and see for yourself if you like DDO's evolution.

This is why I left last year and I blame the community for it. We used to have a very unique game with diverse builds, play-styles and challenges but after years of crying on the forums the devs have been too eager to capitulate to the community's wishes leaving us with a vapid, generic framework where everyone can do anything and everyone's a winner.

This game used to be about teamwork and punish players who were not prepared with horrors such as deadly traps and debilitating spells but has since been systematically butchered into a casual's dream. None of those things matter anymore as you can pretty much roll your face across the keyboard to finish any of the content. In other words, the casuals won and hard-core D&D fans and gamers have since moved on in a futile search for a replacement.

    and welcome back!

Elite Raiders is just a shell of what it used to be. Pyce is gone and will probably stay gone for a LONG time.

Look for Kally, Spetz, Fatty, Huck, and others in their new guild, "The Epic Raiders."
