Default Temple of Elemental Evil Promotion Video

We are approaching the release of the Temple of Elemental Evil adventure pack next week on the Lamannia test server and hopefully by the end of March on the live servers. I have noticed no official promotional material on the Internet or elsewhere about this update, which is one of the most significant additions to the game since the Menace of the Underdark expansion.

I would suggest making a 30 second promotional video for TOEE that can be shared on social media and with news outlets like Massively Overpowered and Ten Ton Hammer that cover the MMO industry. A DDO TOEE video going viral would truly help promote the game as the Temple of Elemental Evil was one of the most popular D&D modules of all time and the last time TOEE was made into a video game (Troika Games' 2003 release) it was a major success.

A number of former players aren't even aware that DDO is still kicking after 9 years, so TOEE could help pull them back into the game. TOEE will also recruit quite a few new players if enough people hear about the update. Heck, even the Shadowfell Conspiracy expansion had a 1:12 minute launch trailer.

The Shadowfell Conspiracy also had a teaser trailer that is over 1 minute in length, which is better than the launch trailer IMO.

The Shadowfell Conspiracy!?!? Two trailers! TOEE can get at least one.

    Cite please.

Also, maybe they should, maybe they shouldn't. I lean towards not, since they've told us what they're doing with ToEE and that is not providing us with the actual module. Hype it too much and people are just going to be ****ed at not actually getting a faithful adaptation of the module.

"The Temple of Elemental Evil sold 128K units ($5.2 million)"

And that is in nominal dollars from over 10 years ago. But Trioka Games eventually shut down anyway.

SO make it a challenge to the player base!

Might have to shoot it on Lamannia this coming week - but great idea!

    I DARE YOU! :P

Yes, if Turbine won't make one, we can make one from Lamannia footage and get it out at Update 25's launch.

I saw a rough cut of our Temple of Elemental Evil trailer on Friday, and it looks sweet. We'll have the video out probably closer to release.
Have fun, and don't forget to gather for buffs!

You'd be spot on if... that were for DDO
I would still like to see... Something that tests character versatility and player adaptability rather than character focus strength and quest knowledge.
I play the quests for the content of the quests not just as an XP/min merry-go-round.
Actual play experience is worth infinitely more than theorycrafting...

I consider ddo's version just to be remake of troika game.
Chosing a module that was already made into a video game was extremally stupid idea.

That's over ten years old, and a dramatically different type of game. Single player turn-based vs real-time MMO is about as different as RPGs get.

The existence of that game is of negligible relevance to DDO.

Its different, but ddo doesn't win in comparsion at all.
In troika version, there's great and rewarding exploration, in ddo it will just be zerg to end chest. Want proff? Look how they failed at haunted halls, where groups just skip most of quest, because there's no reason to visit most rooms, and even less to kill any non mandatory mobs.

Nice to learn that Turbine is launching a video.

Press releases are free advertisement and the short attention span of many internet users would rather watch a video than read text.

I would make videos if I could. The advantage of players making videos is that you can rip off songs and other things from other sources without getting in trouble (e.g. use Game of Thrones theme music or something).
Wiki dashboard with some useful stealthplay links. LONG LIVE STEALTH!
Proud Knight of the Silver Legion, Cannith: Saekee (main) and some others typically parked at some level to help guildies and other players

I disagree....I'm about as exited for this update as any we've had.

Again...I disagree. Haunted hall was not a failure. I still run it and enjoy it.

What's a succes? That there's a huge nice dungeon, where you're rewared only exploring small percentage of it?
No one does most of rooms, because you only get reward for mior, mummy, giant skele, dragon, fake whisper, and that's it.

They're totally different kinds of games. This comparison is pointless.

And I don't see why the comparison is even relevant. Do you really think anyone (besides maybe you) is going to decide whether to buy and play this pack based on how it compares to a decade-old single-player turn-based RPG? I certainly doubt that will be the case. It'll be on its own merits, in relation to the rest of DDO's content, bolstered to some degree by the name-recognition from the original PnP module.

Haunted Halls is an excellent module. Some times I take more time other times I cut it down to the main quest only.
I look greatly forward to TOEE

Turbine has mentioned, I think in a podcast, that ToEE will have a lot of named loot drop from optional bosses that spawn at random locations that are different each time. If you want the named loot, and a focus on farming named loot is why HH is run that way, you will have to explore everywhere to find where the bosses spawned.

Making a 30 second promo video should become standard practice for each quarterly DDO update. The video could be embedded with the press release sent out to the media and would receive many more views and shares because it has a video instead of just text and a link.
