I keep hearing that after the Barbarian pass they are now self healing. Well, my Barbarian is no more self healing now that before the pass. What am I missing?

dual wielding Nightmare the Fallen Moon + 300% Healing Amp + OS or RAV Enhancements = self healing.
I can One Spirit for over 3kHP, my fallen moons heal perhit at around 7-20hp a hit hasted/melee combat speed boosted, god forbidi think of using cocoon.. hope this paints a clearer picture.. im at work i cant fully type my toon atm.
Not many weapons with vampiric on during heroic levels, but there's a great sword/falchion option that works for barbs from sora katra casting, and you can craft it using cannith crafting (though if you do that, compared to modern lootgen, you will definitely be losing serious DPS for the privilege)
All three barb PrEs have self-healing options in their tier-5 abilities: Blood Strength in Ravager, One Spirit in OS, Accelerated Metabolism in FB. Unfortunately, these aren't accessible until lvl 12. There are also a couple of temp HP options, such as Vampiric Bond (OS), Blood Tribute (FB), and I Like Pain (Rav).

Barb has ee viable selfheal now, but thing is to get to that point you need to focus on dps and melle power and use the optimal dps setup ap spread.
Also you need to mitigate damage with smart use of uncany dodge displace and simple med/harmor.
It isnt that hard

Pretty much exactly this, as someone who has played 3 barb lives since the update with various styles and splits, just focusing DPS and melee power makes all the difference. However if you're still having trouble don't forget to either twist consecration from Divine crusader (this works while raged) or buy Silver Flame Potions, likelihood is that if you have done your enhancements and gear properly SF pots should heal you for 800+.
Also making sure you run in Legendary Dreadnought or Divine Crusader (Personally I prefer dreadnought for the consistently higher on-hit heal and better DPS). If you don't have SF pots then it's basically a requirement to use the Ravager healing style as this is the most effective healing type, however you can achieve better DPS in Frenzy tree so if you have SF pots or Soveriegn healing pots from the store then go nuts.
As Overvaan mentioned in the quoted post, displacement is a key to survival, if you do not have Greensteel clickies then use scrolls, the UMD is pretty low, they only last for 30 seconds but that's usually enough time to thin out the group of enemies to a point where you either can move on or do not need displace on.
Here is a link to a video of solo EE vol by no means a perfect run but I go over some important points about playing an EE barbarian. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui9enUD6cO8
