    Default New Druid Wildshapes

Wolf and bear are cool but I had hoped the next couple of updates after druid was introduced would bring more. There are a couple of animal forms that the coding already exists for; many of them are duplicitous or just kind of meh (dogs and hyenas or rats and bats) but there's at least one existing animal I think would make a good druid form: Lion/Panther. Since wolf gets a dex bonus and is "sneaky" and bear gets con bonus and is "tanky" I think it would make sense to give lion strength bonus and make it a straight forward melee dps type. Seeing as winter wolf is a level 8 form, magical beasts seem to be fair game and razor cat would be a logical advanced level 8 form of lion with augmented crits.

If magical beasts are indeed fair game I'd love to see the griffons from stormhorns incorporated. Granted you wouldn't have full flying capability but perhaps maximum jump as a racial bonus and perhaps a form specific spell where you can hold down the space bar and remain at the pinnacle of your jump as long as you hold it (and as long as the spell lasts) - you wouldn't be able to cast spells while hovering, to curb abuse of course. I'd see griffon as level 8 (or above) speed and dps based form with a few perks for "flying" - normal movement over shallow water, immune to slippery surfaces like thief acrobat. Maybe build up a lower level flying form like bat with sonic attacks and similar but lesser perks.

There is also a feat in the Eberron campaign called Child of Winter that allows a druid to assume vermin form. If we could go down that road, there would be a lot of opportunities for form specific spells in spider form: web, poison damage bite (like wolf's frost bite but also str or con damage on crits), tremor-sense (either similar to true seeing or +20 or higher to listen skill - see ALL the footsteps), etc.

Other forms with limited coding exist (the deer in king's forest for example) and more could come with future updates, but the two forms most painfully absent are elsewhere in the game already. I'm talking about earth and air elemental forms that could be pretty much cut and paste graphically from sorcerers' elemental apotheosis. I've tried suggest recycling existing forms to be easier on the devs but if they'd like to grace us with completely new animal forms for druid I wouldn't object to that either

    No.

That's a waste of dev time and resources when they should be working on

    Shapechange
    Transmutation
    Level: Animal 9, Drd 9, Sor/Wiz 9
    Components: V, S, F
    Casting Time: 1 standard action
    Range: Personal
    Target: You
    Duration: 10 min./level (D)
This spell functions like polymorph, except that it enables you to assume the form of any single nonunique creature (of any type) from Fine to Colossal size. The assumed form cannot have more than your caster level in Hit Dice (to a maximum of 25 HD). Unlike polymorph, this spell allows incorporeal or gaseous forms to be assumed.

You gain all extraordinary and supernatural abilities (both attacks and qualities) of the assumed form, but you lose your own supernatural abilities. You also gain the type of the new form in place of your own. The new form does not disorient you. Parts of your body or pieces of equipment that are separated from you do not revert to their original forms.

You can become just about anything you are familiar with. You can change form once each round as a free action. The change takes place either immediately before your regular action or immediately after it, but not during the action. If you use this spell to create a disguise, you get a +10 bonus on your Disguise check.

    Focus
A jade circlet worth no less than 1,500 gp, which you must place on your head when casting the spell. (The focus melds into your new form when you change shape.)

Never gonna happen. This isn't paper and pen D&D - you would have to code for every possible form.

Yeah, I prefer to make suggestions which are at least remotely possible, like "make bear form worthwhile." Pipe Dreams should get their own subforum.

The panther and jaguar forms were discussed in a recent thread on druid animal shapes.

Tree/Ent form becoming the 3rd form/3rd tree could be a very different Druid, would be hard to code (I think) but the concept would certainly draw interest.

Honestly, I'd just be happy if Arties and Druids got a little bit of pet diversity, even if only cosmetically. Because my arti needs a robot spider. He needs it. My druid won't happy till he can have a deinonychus, mind, so I don't think there's much chance of that ever happening: Turbine have never shown any interest in putting dinosaurs into the jungles of Xendrik!

I touched upon this in both of my proposed trees in the third druid tree thread by Silverleafon, definitely would suggest you take a gander at those and if you like them post in that thread to get a wee bit more attention there.
